I’d like to place on record mine and my fellow non-ticket holder thanks to all those going this year for sacrificing a wet festival in order to allow us to have a dry one next year…your sacrifice hasn’t gone unnoticed 🙌🏻

I was just carefully explaining the meteorological phenomenon of 'trading with the Glastonbury weather gods' to my friend.

The sacrifice has been a long time coming tbf.

I've tried to stay away from weather forecasts, discussions etc. this year until at least a couple of weeks in advance, however I heard earlier that we have el nino impacting the jet stream, which is causing the wet/mild weather we've been having.  Allegedly this may be impacting the whole summer.  Can anyone who is more educated/inteligent than me confirm or deny this phenomena?  (Please be wrong, please be wrong, please be wrong.....)

And you know what summer famously came off the back of our our friend the El Nino....

I didn't go to Glastonbury that year but I did frequent some other festivals and damn they were wet!

Still another 3 weeks or so until we get into range of semi reliable (for a general weather pattern) charts. 2 weeks to go if you want to torture yourself with 16 day GFS charts!

Current weather isnt too bad really - its certainly more a mixed bag rather than endless rain.

I'm sure there have been lots of pictures posted from Bearded Theory but here are a few from me. The timing was perfect, all the rain came on arrival day just to make sure everything was wet by the time the tent was up, topped up with a bit more rain sporadically over the weekend just to keep everything moist.  My walking shoes barely cut the mustard. The Oxfam shop sold out of wellies on day 1.

In better news however, the 6-week ECMWF charts for Glasto week still predict a warmer than average week and, where previously they had average rainfall over the week, there is now a little droopy finger of drier than average weather over SW England.  A nice trend to see...things are looking up...

A droopy finger you say?!

Not the sort of finger I was hoping for but any fingering is better than no fingering at all.

That articles now been retracted - The Pilton Forcefield can even infiltrate the media.

A source at the Met Office told i: “In short, no, the claims are not true. As is typical for forecasts made at this time of year, signals for prevailing weather patterns over the UK during summer are relatively weak.

No, the UK is not set for 50 days of rain despite wettest summer predictions

Forecasts had predicted summer 2024 would be the wettest since 1912
