Maybe Emily will figure out having Maty Healy doing a hitler salute on the tele is a bad idea. But wait, its ok, he is a white  rock star, he must not be cancelled.

Thanks Perez, but I think you're stretching it a little bit here.

"Rock" star is a bit of a reach.

I really don't like The 1975, I wouldn't go and see them if they were playing in my back garden and I genuinely hope they never headline but I think this is a song taking the piss out of the likes of Trump, Kanye & others? I struggle to believe that this is the moment in time he decides to come out to the world as a massive racist... I could be wrong, I often am but this would be career suicide and he would know this even if he was an anti semitic c**t rather than just a bit of a c**t.

Yes, one look at the song’s lyrics and it’s certainly an anti-Trump, Kanye etc song. He shouldn’t have done it, however, but it’s clear the intention is to call Kanye a Nazi.

Pretty much nailed it. Don't think he's giving his support to the Third Reich, just making a poor attempt at satire.

Like you say though, he could actually be a Nazi, I've never played their records backwards and taken notes.

That was last night , it’s reminds me I had set a record for it .

wonder if they are re broadcasting highlights to ramp up excitement just before an announcement ?

Not sure that many people are watching BBC4 at midnight tbh - doubt it means much

more likely to be for big weekend anyway i think - they only have 1 glasgow show and big weekend is nearer edinburgh so would make a lot of sense to be honest

Literally no way the programmer of BBC4 gives the slightest shit about R1BW.

I was here in 2015, were you?

Are you going to answer my question of why you think they have secret sets then?

I was there in 2015 yes, I really enjoyed Florence so there was no issue for me.

They have secret sets to have secret sets, same reason as they have for decades now.

They've only really ever had one proper pyramid headliner sized one and that was the killers who then got the reward of a headline set the NEXT festival. The only time a band have actually pulled out fairly last minute in decades they actually bumped a sub up, rather than deploy an act they had earmarked for a secret set.

Gorillaz were a replacement for U2 rather than a sub bump up (but obviously no idea if they had any intention of doing a secret set)

Massively unlikely I'd say.  Especially given there's fuckloads of them plus all the special guests.  They wouldn't even all fit on a smaller stage!

Yes my thought was always that it was a new booking after they found out U2 couldn't play. I think it probably just depends on the year whether there is a headliner sized act lying idle that weekend. If there is obviously in with a shot if not then a sub gets bumped up.

You weren't on eFests and didn't see the whining though.

After Pulp/Radiohead in 2011 (who apparently aren't headliner-sized - will let Thom know) we didn't have any big-name secret sets until 2017.

And my entire point is they didn't start doing this until after the issues in 2015 and *because* of them - because they didn't feel like bumping up a sub was a good option - you'll also note in 2015 there were no secret sets. Had Coldplay been doing a secret set on The Park in 2015 they absolutely would have had them replace Foo Fighters. You really think they wouldn't have?

What do you think they would have done in 2017 if Ed Sheeran broke his leg a couple of weeks before the festival then?

Do you think they say to acts "We don't want you as a headliner but here's £Xk to play a secret set. Don't take any other gigs that would pay you more. By the way, if the people we do want to headline drop out, will you do it then? Then we'll talk about paying you more."?

Maybe they do but I reckon you could be overthinking it.

Taking your example of 2017, I guess you are saying The Killers would have stepped up if Ed dropped out? Perhaps, but what if Radiohead had dropped out? Would Elbow have got the nod?

What if it was Foos? Both The Killers and Elbow had gigs elsewhere, I don't believe there were any big names lined up for secret sets on the Saturday.

I think much more likely that the sub each day would have been bumped up. The XX on Friday, The National on Saturday and Biffy on Sunday.

Much easier to pluck another act from the touring circuit and slot them in at the appropriate lever while everyone above them is bumped up.

You were actually serious weren’t you.

I was 100% serious. It would have been another first for Glastonbury headline acts on the Pyramid Stage and a brave move. However it would seem they would rather play it safe with Guns n Roses, just another dull rock group that have been around nearly 40 years. However by what I have seen / heard of them these days, they should raise nearly as many laughs as Peter Kay.

    • Well when you chuck 150 predictions put somethings gotta stick 😜   When you have GC or Avril as options to sub Blink, Turnstile wouldn't be a good option at all. Put them under a heavier headliner.   The thought that three days grace will headline avalanche is pretty laughable with the slots they are getting this year at fests. They were class at RIP     On am overall side note, Bruce slipped on last night see you next year before the encore!   Also Maiden smashed it!
    • Assuming nobody knows she’s playing before the main sale, it wouldn’t be that bad. There’d still be plenty of Swifties for you to sneer at but it wouldn’t be because they’ve infiltrated the sale, it would be because she’s just that popular.
    • I just saw Rock am Ring in Germany did a video announcing blink-182 will be playing it next year during this year's festival there.   We talked about when Glastonbury announces it's first headline act but that would be different if they announced a 2028 headliner during next year's event.
