Had a dream last night where Elton John, Pulp and The Chemical Brothers were announced as headliners.

The 1975 were doing two other stage headline sets on Saturday and Sunday but one of them was branded as β€˜The 1974’ and was just gonna be their older songs.

Not sure what to make of this

It surely means it’s locked in πŸ‘πŸ˜€

The 1975 are an enigma this year. Huge UK tour, multiple UK and European festivals, very obvious GSH... and yet it looks incredibly likely that they're not headlining this year.

I am also leaning toward the 'back up plan' option, though having literally just done that for Reading, you'd think that's the last thing they'd want to be known for.Β

Maybe secret set this year and in for 2024? I really don't know.Β

Wonder if Boardmasters goes for 3 indie headliners breaking their trend and gets them? They were previously booked in 2020 so there is history I guess.

The 1975 are only at TRNSMT currently right?

1975 keeping their weekend free has had all my 1975 fanboy and fangirl mates drooling the idea that they're headlining, refuse to listen to what sensible information I have regarding AM & GnR and it's going to be the funniest thing ever when they're not on the poster

Honestly feel like them doing the JP Secret Set is the single most obvious thing about this years line up

I really think that the John Peel stage is completely appropriate for Matt Healy and the ladsΒ

"Secret set" and "back up plan" are pretty much the same thing in my opinion. That's why we get such big acts doing secret sets in the first place.

Aside from the killers, they’re almost always sub level acts or lower.

Been on a long sabbatical since the ticket sale last November, but came back yesterday to see that Guns N Roses have become TBC on the line-up page. Since when and what new info has come up about them headlining? They were just R when I last saw them included in the running.

Aside from that, pretty happy Elton is going to close on Sunday, and that it's confirmed now.

If I was a big band that wasn’t getting the call I’d keep my schedule free for your Glasto’s, Coachella’s whatever. Stepping in to save the day could be the gig of your career.

Amongst other things, their bassist confirmed it in a radio interview.

Probably not lol. Glasto isn’t the be all and end all to everyone, leat not millionaire musicians. You wouldn’tΒ be a β€˜big band’ in the first place with that bridesmaid attitude.

Yeah but many years sub-level acts headline anyway. It's only the past few festivals that the headliners have been solid gold in terms of size.

Jack White / Foals / Killers - two of them may have been disappointing headliners but we wouldn't have immediately called it as someone else dropping out.

I do wonder if in 2016 Muse were down for a secret set and got the bump.

It also gives the option of bumping up a sub and fitting the secret set act in, or indeed it's a replacement option for the subs themselves.

George Ezra? Vampire Weekend? Bastille? Lloye Carner?

The Killers really are the exception rather than the rule, plus the Rolling Stones headlined a decade ago now. What is your classification of β€˜recent’?

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.Β  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).Β
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).Β  Β  On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.Β  Β  Now on the negatives.Β  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?Β  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.Β  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.Β  Β  And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.Β  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.Β  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous. Β  Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.Β
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
