Not sure what a doink is?

I just want a Labour government and it's clear that infinitely more likely with Starmer or similar than Corbyn or similar. And the "Keith" patter which is some of the absolute shittest in the online left sphere almost all comes from those who refuse to accept the mess Corbyn left the party in. I haven't noticed you posting any of the polls of the last few months which have Labour ahead? Almost like you dislike Labour being successful more than the tories...

Lol its getting silly now, honestly can anybody speak of anything positive about Starmer that doesn’t refer to Corbyn?

His hair and...? Oh um... something something sensible... and... erm...

Do we have any idea when household mixing will be allowed again?

I noticed it’s not been mentioned much today in the press when talking about loosening of restrictions.

I’ve noticed that hasn’t been in the press too. I expect we’ll get told in the 22nd Feb but I expect outdoor household mixing in a rule of 6 at first. Indoor household mixing might not be for a little bit.

Latest leak seems to be that they’ll keep the rule of 2 outdoors at first but expand it to allow for picnics and socialising, not just exercise. Rule of six outdoors might be in April and then indoors later on. I just really hope they expand support bubbles, me and the Mrs are getting really fed up of having to spend chunks of time living at each other’s places.

McLibel, strong on antisemitism, strongest personal ratings since Blair, great at PMQs, appointed first female chancellor/shadow chancellor, consistently been correct on CV19 - what does he do that you evidently dislike so much?

Ok my political analysis - vaccine program going well and swings of 4-5% in individual polls not really that rare. Looking at individual polls rather than the way polls are generally trending is reductive. Starmer and Labour struggling to to cut through with anything at the moment, partly due to lack of policy announcements but more because of unique political situation of global pandemic.

To be fair a lot of centrists would rather see the Tories win than have a left wing Labour Party, as we saw over the past few years. And also as we saw with Brexit, a lot of centrists refuse to compromise if they actually feel strongly about something, so I think that old 'centrists are sensible and pragmatic and left-wingers are crazy, uncompromising purists' is really out of date- we're all pretty much the same.

Any labour government is better than any tory government - should be a guiding principle that everyone from Corbyn to Blair should hold!

So I did my COVID test through the REACT study today and sent the test off. I haven’t done a test before, it’s pretty grim but I’ll be interested to see the results. @Homer have you done yours?

Yes indeed, did it on Friday. Was fairly unpleasant so think I did it correctly!

If the above is saying that if you're vaccinated you no longer have to abide by the rules then I completely disagree with it. What load of utter garbage.

How is that fair on young people? Wheres the "we're all in this together"? I have put my life on hold for almost an entire year. I kept to the rules, I stayed in doors, I wore a mask when out. Ive seen friends a handful of times and we all stuck to the rules.

The risk to young people of COVID has been tiny but the majority of us have stuck to the rules.

"After studying law at Leeds University (LLB) and Oxford University (BCL), Keir Starmer was called to the Bar in 1987 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 2002. He has conducted cases at the highest level in England and Wales, including over 30 cases in the House of Lords (before it became the Supreme Court) and before the Privy Council. He has also conducted cases all over the world, including in international courts such as the International Court of Justice, the European Court of Human Rights, the Inter-American Court of Human Right, the Caribbean Court of Justice and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights.

He was named as QC of the Year in the field of human rights and public law in 2007 by the Chambers & Partners Directory and in 2005 he won the Bar Council's Sydney Elland Goldsmith award for his outstanding contribution to pro bono work in challenging the death penalty throughout the Caribbean and Africa."

Pretty much everyone I know voted Labour last time and the time before and will vote Labour next time (that's my plan too).

What confused me about the poll posted earlier this sequence is that both Tories and Labour lost percentage points compared to the previous week (think it said -1 for Tories and -5 for Labour), and the Lib Dems made a gain... surely they've been even quieter than Labour of late? I'm not even sure who their leader is anymore.

Labour just don't seem to ever learn. It feels like the centrists and left just want to spend more time fighting each other for control in a way the Tories just keep a better lid on. Seems to have happened during Blair, Brown, Miliband, Corbyn and now Starmer. At some point, it really just has to stop. I'm aware that the US Democrats did have internal tension in the election cycle last year, but they were able to cool it for long enough to realise that the other side of the aisle was the real people to argue with.

Totally agree. Unfortunately (in my opinion anyway) for a lot of people it seems to be one big tedious pissing competition of LOOK HOW LEFT WING I AM EVERYONE.

Ok, lets look at the small print of this poll.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EuCdG7VXMAEbuhg?format=jpg&name=small

So it's literally about a thousand people meaning each % point equals 10 people answering. Using responses that are about a week old.

Unless you're sampling a consistent and large data set, minor fluctuations within polls don't mean much. The official margin of error on a sample size this small is about 3% and given the need to ensure a geographic spread to pick up the SNP/PC/etc it'll be higher than that in reality. I've not checked but given that we're over 2 years out from the next election. I doubt many polling organisations are putting resources into performing polls of a large enough scale that they can be considered genuinely informative.

Can we please stop obsessing over every fucking opinion poll that gets published? They mean absolutely nothing right now.

Yeah, I'm voting Labour next time almost whatever happens. I can't see any situation where a Labour government wouldn't be better than a Conservative one - even if I have dissatisfaction with the leader.

The situation for the left in this country is dire (as echoed in this thread). I don't think I'll live under a Labour government in my lifetime (44) - at least until (if/when) I move to New Zealand!
