You guys are doing January wrong, it's great. Plenty of gigs about, pubs are emptier after being stupidly busy all of December, restaurants have a tonne of deals on and by the end the days are starting to get a little longer.

Obviously that is in usual times but lets not pretend, no matter how important it is, a January lockdown will be easy.

Hi all, hope all is well with everyone.

Grandad is getting vaccine tmo, dad mid jan.. very pleased.

Glasto chat FB muppets in a meltdown just because Paul Macca has said he don’t think he will be playing next year, as if he organises the festival or works for the government. 

Despite living in Essex (Basildon one of the worst in the UK at present) I’m really really optimistic that Glasto goes ahead next year. For the first time i actually feel like their is an end to this bollocks.

Surely we will be seeing positive patterns as a consequence of the vaccine by mid Feb? A decision doesn’t have to be made on the go ahead of the festival until late March/April right? People (not so much people on this forum!!!) appear to forget events will have to go ahead even with covid still lingering.

If the whole country hibernates through January then it’s pretty much a certainty for normality by Spring.

I agree, my birthday is in January and me and the wife always go away. Hotels are really cheap as its such a quiet month and you can have a nice evening out in peace as no crowds to be seen. (In a normal year, pretty sure we will be locked down most of this january/february)

Pleased that Johnson has come out and told people that it is vital to minimise all contact from today onwards if you’re forming a Christmas bubble. 
With pubs/restaurants shut for a large part of the county, online shopping, schools now closed, people WFH etc there is no real need for lots of people to leave the house until 23rd essentially. 

In a survey of one, my mum has just told me that she won’t be leaving the house and asked us not too either ‘just to be sure’.

Can't agree with this January lockdown is ok idea - the biggest problem with lockdowns is the job losses and general poverty it will lead to. We shouldn't be doing anything to encourage needing more or prolonging it. Yes obviously we need one now, but christmas basically guarantees it lasting ar least 1-2 months longer and may actually overwhelm the NHS anyway so we'll have failed. The country has lost its collective minds over Christmas and everyone will suffer the consequences

Me and Miss Afro are doing the same, although we WILL be going out for walks. Just not any indoor places such as shops or gyms.

Yeah same - I think many will be doing similar.
If (and it’s a big if) the majority of people are sensible with this, there is no reason why January has to be a total disaster - although there will be an inevitable spike in the immediate weeks they follow.

There are however some sections of society who simply will not give a shit. and still get together in very, very large numbers to do whatever they want and sod the rest.

We would normally be having large gathering of friends over the coming week at peoples houses however we've elected this year to just do smaller outside/distanced meetings to exchange gifts and leave it at that, its just not worth the risk

We are having my Mum through  to ours for christmas -  on balance her mental health took priority.  Her GP has just offered to increase her anxiety pills after a recent video consultation.  He is concerned with her loneliness..

Will only be 3 of us and we all have had the bare minimum outside contact for months.

And for me, it’s for exact reasons like this why the household mixing should not be banned over Christmas.

Seems like there is almost zero risk for you all, and is very much needed. Hope you all enjoy your time and it goes some way to helping your mums mental health.
