the problem is a bloody pandemic and people ( partly ) not sticking to the rules .... so although a very blunt tool ... and not a great one tbh ... there might need to be something that does the job of this .....they might need something very drastic to prevent the NHS being overwhelmed .... any suggestions seeing as the previous lockdown had cases rising before it had finished ?

If you want cases proper back down then the only thing you can really do is a full on lockdown like back in March where everything is shut. Inevitably though, lockdown fatigue has understandably kicked in though and it is winter so more need to be indoors.

N ireland are doing this plus the curfew .... clearly they dont think the first option only will have the desired effect ... and people meeting in other peoples homes needs to stop for them to regain control ....

I thought you meant like not being able to go out a walk after 10pm or something when you said curfew (sorry i didnt read properly). Yes household mixing is a problem but people are gonna do it anyway imo.

I live in a country with a curfew and it is respected so well it doesn't need to be enforced.

Really, I find it no big deal. You can't go out when it's sleeping time...

And the shops and restaurants are open.

Way better for me to have it that way round.

they are all over Europe now and its a tool that hasn't been used here as yet .... Ive no need to be going out ... its dark and horrible outside  , where are you ? and does it seem to be bringing infection levels down ?

A curfew wouldn’t negatively affect me as I’m an early night sort of person but certainly wouldn’t be a fan if one was introduced.

Wasn’t required last time so don’t see the need if we enter another lockdown?

its winter and we have lower compliance ... so more needs to be done to get the same net effect ?

I’m not sure how winter has any impact on a curfew? If people are going to go other folks houses etc then they are going to do it regardless of what time they should be home...

winter is the reason a curfew might need to be imposed as a control measure .... we are seeing surging numbers and might need something stronger than we had previously .... a curfew would naturally mean fewer people out and about between those hours , if you watch the videos of places like Paris you notice that traffic vanishes ... and likely all those people have headed home rather than round to friends places .... Its a tool thats available .... thats my point more than saying its one id love

Yeah I’m certainly not saying you’d like one mate don’t worry.

I just personally don’t see a curfew working as well as people might think especially with what you’ve mentioned in regards to lockdown fatigue.

Although numbers are high and likely to get much worse I’m not sure the compliance is there anymore.

We’re nearly a year in to restrictions!

Im not totally advocating the curfew ... but I dont think anyone would argue that the last lockdown had minimal impact .... probably brought the NHS 2 weeks maybe ..... but we might need something that calls for very drastic action a few weeks after christmas .... answers on a postcard to Matt Hancock and Boris
