can't you do that already? People living on own can form a bubble with another household or something?

Could do, but my Mum has close friends nearer her than I am and I don't want to deprive her of them .   I have to juggle with my father in law too, he also is in his own so we had to make a choice a few months back when his needs were greater.

Neither live in the same city as we do, and both live in comparitive hot zones to us.  It isn't easy.

Thats good so far

That would suggest

week 1 - 140,000

week 2 - 360,000

Still have a huge number of GP practices yet to come online (understand we’re at about 200 of a potential over 1,000 practices), and Oxford approval will multiply this big time. Millions a week appears doable.

Just recall Parliament, if they were going to for Brexit trade talks then they can for this.

I don't think parliament needs to be recalled. Christmas bubbles have been done by statutory instrument so they can just issue a new statutory instrument under the emergency procedure. Only needs to be voted on within 3 weeks.

Few 'rumours' on twitter that the new strain affects young people fairly badly too but nothing close to conclusive on that yet it seems.

Certainly seems to be a worrying development either way though.

I think probably best to wait to see what official health/science experts say. Maybe there will be a press briefing tomorrow.

Thats a south Africa variant. Very small amount of evidence in that though.

Yeah, that's the same sort of thing I saw, some people saying the variant in SA is the same as the one we have.

As always though, there's so much rubbish and speculation on Twitter, this site is much more reliable for info.

Its potentially worrying but I think we would have seen that in the UK if it was the case here by now.

Got a link to any of these rumours? Wondering how careful I should be

Wtf?

Boris Johnson is a complete moron, everything that is happening was predicted months ago and he’s only now seeing there’s a problem. The guy is an idiot and has shown criminal levels of negligence over this; he has to do something because he has let the country down.

Am i being too cynical by thinking that the importance of this new strain could be being blown out of proportion by the government, so that they can blame this for a need to u-turn and introduce stricter measures over Xmas? The timing just seems too perfect to me.

You aren’t being too cynical at all, I can see why you would!
