Hold your horses about acca Dacca because it could be Springsteen. Someone is saying he has dates TBA and has just released an album. Would fit the description.

Hmm I'd be quite up for Springsteen tbh. Obviously didn't see him in 2009 and he's on my bucket list. My partner loves him so it would be pretty cool for her.

Not too sure Glastonbury would go for him again. Tbf the new record is decent and so was the last one, so it's not a total like for like repeat.

Interesting one! Struggling to see both him and Macca in the same year though but we'll see.

Wait a minute...

Couldn't it just be Macca?

He also understands the expectations of festival crowds now, and does deviate from the normal tour setlist to factor them in, last time it was just a shortened version of the normal tour set.

Can't see it though, he's said he doesn't anticipate Covid allowing touring until 2022.

Didn't you say last time you mentioned this that the act hadn't played Werchter before? Which puts it closer to being AC/DC than it does Bruce.

On a side note I’m very interested to hear who this act is that Rock Werchter have booked for 2021.

The clues are

- Stadium filler

- No announced dates for 2021 so far, want to announce them all in one go.

He’s mentioned a worthy replacement for SOAD but I don’t think that’s talking about the same act, as this act is meant to be playing on the Friday which is the day the strokes were playing.

Maybe not quite stadium filler but, Thom and the lads maybe?

Edit: just seen that Thom himself has already been announced

I don’t think Springsteen has played Werchter Festival. He played the TW Classic single day thing that is held on part of the same site. I am getting so pedantic about this you could almost imagine the words Werchter Festival being signalled by two fingered inverted commas.

No I agree that you wouldn't call them the same thing so that's a fair point, thanks.

Dunno why but my first thought was Arctic Monkeys, even if they tend not to play the big open air stadium shows. But then its hard to ever really know what they're up to.

That’s not a bad shout, seeing how the was that rumour from a while back they were doing three nights at Hillsborough Park in Sheffield.

Hmm considering we’re talking about mainland Europe here and not the U.K. I’m not sure Arctics would be described as a ‘stadium filler’. They’re not exactly known for even playing stadiums, never mind filling them. Think some of the previous guesses of huge old timey rock acts like AC/DC, Bruce etc fit that description far more.

They do but own outdoor shows also kind of go with stadium too.

Yeah I recall this was a rumour for the start of June. Whether doing both is overkill is another matter, but equally, announcing everything all at once is the kind of thing they would do.

Yeah this is a hang up. What was surprising about knowing they played the big Foro Sol stadium in Mexico City last year is that it was them actually doing a big outdoor stadium gig. They could easily sell out Wembley or the London Stadium, but they've never really done those shows even here (except maybe Finsbury Park) with festivals as preference, and that's before mainland Europe, where they are a reliable festival booking but maybe not the big stadia.

Springsteen is perhaps a fair shout as well, given people still have fond memories of his 2009 visit.

Nah. If the people in the loop regarding Rock Werchter are saying this is a pretty huge deal - in a lineup that already includes stadium acts like RHCP and Pearl Jam - then Arctic Monkeys aren't it. They'd obviously be a bigger draw in the UK than either of those acts but they're a standard headline-every-album act at RW.

I would still think that the smart money would be on AC/DC for that berth. They've shown they can play festivals now and perhaps agreeing festival dates is more cost-effective than the full show with all the bells and whistles in an uncertain touring landscape.

Means fuck all for Glastonbury as they don't come cheap - and I would be surprised if the headliners are anyone other than Lamar, McCartney, Swift/Lipa - but a nice thought nonetheless.

    • Going with Oxfam.  Just booked my ferry today.  Looking forward!
    • The Radio Dept.?! That's a surprise to me, they haven't toured in like 8 years. Hopefully they will announce some more shows.
