Having watched it all the way though now, there’s a few scenes/sections that weren’t in the edited version that’s been on YouTube throughout

I'm going to have to watch this all tonight, thanks for finding it!

I would love to see an updated version of this to see what the local area thinks of the festival now.

Great watch. Did not realise the hassle he had to put up with OR how horrible certain people made the festival back then.

Would like to think they have it all down to a tee now and the locals are not as put out. (handsomely compensated).

Me!

Yeah, me too!

i was sort of on the fringes between about 89 and 92ish, first through the anti-poll tax stuff, then the free rave/festival side of things, and i absolutely love reading your stuff, dusty.

Me!

All of us!

Seriously, a first hand account of what went on back then? Priceless stuff, I'd really appreciate hearing everything you can remember from back then.

"Arresting disease ridden travellers can be a health risk" say police, "they flick fleas at us, use them as weapons and we have to burn our police uniforms". Classic

"Some travellers live almost beyond the law"  Now that really is bollocks, we lived well outside the law. :D

Know lots of faces in that film, some of who aren't with us anymore. Likewise with some of the wonderful vehicles.

"The travellers won't be here this year, they are having their own do"  ME.  One of the few occasions when ME called it wrong. He gave between £7k and 15k to a well known face on the scene to put on an alternative festival. It didn't happen, not even nearly. The money went up his nose/into his arm. I knew him. He died years ago.

After the problems of '90 (it really was a minority of our lot causing trouble, had it been everyone they would have had to call in the army) we saw that the writing was on the wall so I cobbled together a covered stage which was used as The Outside Circus Stage in '92 so got a big posse in legitamately.

To anyone who has watched this film and doesn't know the score, it is hugely biased against the travelling scene as was. The Mutoid Waste Co (Joe Rush), Lost Vagueness, Shangri La, The Common, The Unfairground, Arcadia and many other areas and performances at the festival all evolved from the travelling scene.

ME is a genius. He is the most accomplished negotiator and problem solver I've ever known. Back in the day he had The Establisment baying for his blood. Now they love him and what he has achieved.

His version of Christianity is also super flexible. It keeps all sides happy.

Respect.

Theres a few villagers who are regulars on here if you want some first hand accounts.. but I agree a similar doc on how the village deals with the fest these days would be good

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • World Cup 2026: What is happening with ticket prices? - BBC Sport   Sounds like Infantino has been learning from his buddy if he's running around claiming its all sold out while quietly dumping tickets below face on assorted secondary websites.
    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
