Other Stage

Its a shame Groove Armada have ruled themselves completely out now because they would be pretty much the perfect band to replace the Prodigy on short notice. Seem willing, are similar music and I think theyd put on a great show and tribute. Guess you could argue they arent big enough to take that spot though.

Probably been called already but Fatboy Slim would be an easy solution wouldn’t he? Massive name, guaranteed to be at the festival, dance act, likely to play/willing to a play Prodigy tribute.

Id be all game for that or any other type of tribute. Get a DJ on blasting their tunes out. Maybes have some guests come up and play/sing some of their tunes. Be a great tribute to Keith.

Cant see it but I would certainly go and rock that.

Don't see that happening at all. Top two stages being Foals and The Killers would leave many at a loose end. Then you've got to think that they were trying to entertain a certain section of the clientele with The Prodigy so they'd go for something closer to that.

No different to bumping up the Courteeners though. I just think they’ll go for a name, and they’re available.

Could even shift Chems to the Saturday if they’re worried about clashes.

I don’t think they’ll bump Courteeners up either, that seems more far-fetched than Foals doing it. Don’t think they can just bounce acts around the lineup like moving Chem Bros’ day though.

Mark Ronson maybe? Especially with Miley already on that day + King Princess playing elsewhere. I think hes doing Parklife earlier in the month?

That’d be a good back up shout. Especially if he brings out miley, Kevin Parker, ghostface  killa, lily allen and  santigold to guest on the tracks he’s already done with them. Was a proper party on the other stage last time he played.

If courteeners are subbing the other then it is fishy they aren’t on the poster and gives weight to whether or not they are sorting the slot out.

Also I remember in the past emily said that after the lineup drop they often get bands or acts calling asking if they could play. Maybe it’s a good idea to keep the slot free and see if anyone falls into their lap.

Nobody's positions are on the poster though

I see Pendulum have stepped in to cover for the Prodigy at SW4. I'm still of the opinion that they'd also be a half decent substitute on the Other Stage. Maybe they're less likely given this news but it doesn't suggest any exclusivity in the announcement

Think it says they're opening a new chapter starting at SW4 or something along those lines which to me would rule them out.

Everyone is talking about Courteeners subbing Other on Saturday but I really can’t see them put against Liam Gallagher, the Mancs at the festival would have a breakdown

(no offence intended as I am a Mancunian)

I’m from Bolton, I understand the issue. For me it’d have to be Teeners.

Personally think that info was wrong.  I still think it’s the Chemical Brothers vs The Killers on Saturday night and Vampire Weekend for the Sunday other spot

I’m inclined to agree about Chemical Bros still being a possibility for the Saturday but what with The Prodigy almost definitely being originally lined up for the third Other slot I don’t see how it could now be Vampire Weekend, especially opposite The Cure - that makes just as little sense as Liam vs Courteeners.

I knewer younger act (they are aren’t they?) vs a Heritage act.  I’m more inclined to believe they’ll bump someone up rather than replacing

Is there a reason the festival don't confirm days for the acts on the first poster drop? Minus the headliners of course.

Also is there anything which stipulates once confirmed an artist / act isn't allowed to confirm which day / spot they are playing?

Seems odd that only a handful of acts confirm the day etc.

it's just a way to drive publicity.

Just about all festivals (there are a few exceptions) announce their line-up in stages. Each announcement creates some publicity.

I don't think there is, although I'm not sure.

What I think is going on is that because bands are used to festivals being responsible for the announcements they tend to not reveal anything that the festival hasn't already revealed.

I don't get why people think 2 similar bands won't be booked to play at the same time. It happens literally every year the stages are booked separately and they're obviously not arsed about clashes.

There must be some correspondence between the main stages, and having Liam from Oasis and a wannabe Oasis playing the two biggest stages at the same time seems a bit dumb, both for fans of that kind of thing and non-fans.

I agree that it is a bit dumb but I also think it is possible.

    • Another note, if I didn't mention the food in the arena for main stage is right at the back. Bands wise they do very well for but as a festival so far they pros are outweighed quite heavily currently for me.
    • On another note for RIP as an event, there is some good things but there are so many things people going to UK festivals would hate and how far behind they are.  Consistent network and water, beer and pretzel like food is brought around to buy in the crowds. Topping up on the wristband is good. The camping and food arrangement is not good, you really need cooking kit. Water points inside the arena are bonkers, water points in camping are a faff unless you are close enough in general camp. Merch stands are crazy. You MASSIVELY need to think about your lidl shop for camping and try and do it so you've one stop. It's definitely worth it getting to a camping shop here, picking up a rolley between your mates and stacking it for the walk back....lidl is cheap though, not hard getting in but Thursday queues getting in and into the camping is mad. You have to register first for a wristband as well leaving any bigger bags behind so pull to a side if only two and do it separately. I was joining a WhatsApp group for solo camp so went with the flow but I've learnt. Had it been me or just two my tent would have been down much quicker.  Big final note, I got a fresh and black 3 man from decathlon before coming and put in bigger suitcase with my airbed and sleeping bag...do this. Take a smaller option for your clothes. If you go to Munich first, book your train to Nuremberg as far in advance as you can....very important!....it hikes crazy. Probably bettee overall for baggage sizes to do BA both ways but you do then need to go back to Munich after too. Use the B&B hotel hbf the night before....its very nice, comfortable, cheap and within 10 minutes of the station which also serves as a transport stop 15 minutes from the registration.  Get up literally like 5am with everything back the night before, shower and go. Transport is free anyway for festival ticket holders during the duration.  Would I just choose to travel in each day and back to a hotel?, on the basis of sleep and getting accommodation cheap enough for 3 nights i might just do especially if I picked the ticket up early enough. It doesn't feel like a festival in a normal sense....unless you are in general yoi have to exit on the paths outside the camping to walk down and in which also applies for getting water so have a stock up. Toilets are in the camping.
