Yeah...errr, I don't get you?

Not too difficult, Nick Cave was criticising a band who are more successful than him by an absolute landslide. And I found it humorous.

The mountain goat thing was a joke, in response to Gucci's comment. Don't take stuff too serious ??

Haven't read last few pages, but understand Macca is out. Did Emily actually rule Madonna out or just say she would be amazing? Apparently she's up for doing a turn on eurovision this year, new album about to drop, I can see it happening. I know people have said about her fee, but just because that's her usual doesn't mean she's not flexible for right coverage..which she would get tv wise.

I had info that Madge was definitely not doing it, and everything since - including what Emily said* - has backed that up.

* which I'm pretty sure she said to kill off the madge rumour, as it had been widely reported. Emily likes to kill off the falsies for the biggest acts.

Unfortunately that info came from the same place as the Macca info. :P

Don't think he was saying they aren't successful, just that they are shit.

Fair play on latter, despite my point remaining valid, but he wasn't making a point about success, he was making a point about shit, which despite containing some excellent musicians RHCP certainly are now. If you've seen them live you can empathise even more.

If he was right though and Macca pulled out I highly doubt Madonna would be a back up and if they didn’t book her prior it’s not happening.

Strokes it is.

Seen them live twice, first time they were incredible, second time they were massively disappointing. They've been going for some time and clearly past their best. The point he was making about them being shite is the bit I personally found rich, considering their back catalogue of successful albums and popularity.

The Strokes headlining Glastonbury would be embarrassing for all concerned.

This how we know it's not happening man, there'd be no 2020 festival if The Strokes played. Kill Glastonbury with the shame.

Successful and popular does not exclude you from being in the shit circle in the Venn diagram of the music business.

@eFestivals do you have anything in place to stop the forum self destructing if The Strokes are announced? I fear it could be the end.

Imagine Richard Ashcroft was announced on the same day, think I'd book in some annual leave just to make sure I didn't miss the backlash on here

No different to most of the headliners, really. Don’t see why people get mopey about The Strokes potentially headlining despite peaking nearly twenty years ago but give a pass to their shit contemporaries who watered down their sound by the bucketload to stay in the game.

The heat generated from the roasting of Ashcroft would send this place thermo-nuclear.

So, where does the Strokes thinking come from exactly? Any source or just someone decided on here somewhen that it might be them ?

Just can't see it myself.

Emily had a bad phone line. Spoke to a representative of someone from the Fab four. Turned out it was Fab's four.

Mainly a combination of Nick Grimshaw saying he's heard theyre playing, on his shows 2 days in a row. Also someone on here who heard  a little while back (early December?) from someone who works at one of the countries largest promoters that it's Stormzy, The Strokes and The Cure headlining

but for real if they booked Eagles it would be a resounding “who”.

They might be shit and not suitable but this is a strange one. One of the more recognisable names in music with record sales supposedly similar to the likes of U2, Aerosmith and Frank Sinatra. More than Prince, Bob Dylan, Metallica, Bee Gees, Fleetwood Mac and Guns n Roses as well as modern mega stars (and recent headliners) like Coldplay, Adele and Ed Sheeran. No chance the people not knowing who they are would be anything close to resounding.

    • Considering how popular of a booking Scooter have been I think they'd go down well
    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
