2019 Headliners

Bob Dylan and Childish Gambino both seem to fit the description (solo, have a gender, unexpected, prob say no) although she reckoned a Macca fan wouldn't like them, so maybe not Dylan

But then we've got two rappers headlining - modern times eh?

Seems a bit early to be panicking into a shock replacement though doesn’t it? I mean Prince pulled out in April and they got The Who.

If it was Macca pencilled in and he’s pulled the plug, he was surely the ‘safe’ bet out of the headliners. Surely they would be aiming at a safe one to replace him?

Yes but that just kinda proves it - that did seem a very panicky rebooking with havning to cancel a gig and fans revolting etc.

But there’s lots of years headliners are apparently not even booked until the new year? So this should be fairly par for the course.

Also, without trying to sound too grim, if you line up a headliner a year or so in advance who is in his 70s I reckon you tend to have some sort of backup plan. This is some time ahead of having to announce anything so the idea they were scrambling from the other source or going for weird ones from her seems strange.

Nick Cave is a great shout but technically a band. Also he wouldn't say no, he's been proving himself worthy of that slot for years as a strong sub.

He lives in LA now, doesn't he? Could be a chance he wouldn't want to make the journey for one gig considering he toured the death out of Europe last year. Would love it though, Cave's deserved the headline slot since Push the Sky Away and *that* performance in 2013.

So thinking of female solo artists;

Madonna - new album next yr, likely to have a tour waiting in the wings so dates might be a problem, expensive.

Kate Bush - Picky about what she does, but doesn't mean no.

Swift - apparently not a fan of festivals but I believe has done some, so maybe.

Kylie - bump up from legend slot and find replacement for that which could be easier to fill

Pink - too many days on the trot touring

Gaga - can't see why she would turn it down really. Available as far as we know.

Beyonce - done before so could be a reason for saying no. But will have been 8 yrs ago so a possible.

Dua Lipa - biggest selling female artist this year, a Glastonbury regular. Only one album and too big a step up.

Cher - active again touring US. Finishes in time unless has European dates up her sleeve.

Can't think of anyone else. Of course 50% chance of being female is meaningless really.

Cave was wonderful at RW last year but can’t help the feeling Stormzy, The Cure and Nick Cave is a bit bold even for the Eavii

I’m refusing to accept Macca’s out on the information presented so far.

Agree. Everyone seems much more willing to accept bad news rather than good.

If a random girl on twitter posted that ‘Fleetwood mac/Daft Punk/insert act people want here’ were playing because her ‘industry bod’ mates said so, almost nobody would take it with anything other than a large punch of salt.

I mean it might be true and she may be right, but believing her isn’t particularly logical at this stage.

I think the interest in this change of circumstances is because there's nothing else to talk about in the headliners thread, seeing as we thought we had it all wrapped up.

    • Very quiet in here at the moment.....again.   I hate this time as other festivals start and we see who Sziget should've booked 🤣   The Cure knocking it out of the park once again at Primavera showed that they have fans of all ages and, even if it's felt they don't represent the direction Sziget is going in, they would've been a huge draw.   Ditto The XX, who I've never been a massive fan of tbh, but put me in my place at Primavera with a cracking set.
    • Ballots for BST and Roundhay dates on TfG
    • Yeah, I feel like people are really overlooking just how fantastic Simple Minds are. ABC have a classic 80s new wave album behind them as well.   That being said, yeah it's not worth travelling for. But it's a lineup I would be happy with if it were local to me
    • On the Wet Leg crowd - the opening day always has the worst crowd of the festival. A lot of locals show up purely because it's a cheap evening, often with not much interest in the acts performing, so, while the talking is an issue throughout the festival (and increasingly at gigs/fests everywhere) it's particularly rough on the Wednesday every year. I'll only bother next year if I really like the act playing.  The wristband is basically a souvenir these days, which I like, as I keep them. Also I guess for the festival it's kind of cheap advertising as people walk around the city with them on.
