Obviously I’m only going by what’s said on here, but my understanding is that they’re all paid the same each year.

Fair enough but really not sure about it that. There’s always a negotiation involved and there’s quotes (referenced here http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-40273111) about how he paid Macca and Coldplay £200,000. Would think he’d mention everyone rather than just those?

Also he’s said things in the past about bands wanting too much/not being able to reach a deal. Neil could probably clarify better

By most accounts only the Stones have had a higher fee. Everyone else gets the same, this might go up year on year, but Stormzy wouldn’t be getting less than The Cure for example.

Everyone has started repeating this a lot recently and I'm not sure what the primary sources are.  I thought all we really knew is that Glasto don't pay as much as "the commercial festivals" to the headliners.  We don't really know there is a flat fee that they still pay when the likes of Coldplay and Arctics and (for their first appearance) or KOL headline do we?

Emily and Michael have mentioned it a few times that there’s a ‘standard fee’ for headlining.

I’m pretty sure Paul McCartney was mentioned in the way that he was refuting rumours about them breaking the bank for Macca. He said similar about the Stones too, tbf.

I’m not sure, you’re right that it has become accepted wisdom on here but I think there’s a degree of truth to it. As dental says below Michael and Emily have both eluded to it in the past.

Was interesting hearing Emily talk about fees in her interview with George Ezra. Agents of big American acts often ask "is this a joke" when the Festival presents its offer.

I read a story on The S*n site recently about Cher being interested in appearing, until she found out how much they would be willing to pay and promptly ghosted them.

Do you reckon they ever approach an artist offering less? Or would it only happen the other way around, like an artist saying they’ll play for less than the fee?

I know they're sensitive towards offending big stars with low offers so they hope those biggest stars will come to them, and I know they've paid more than the 'standard' fee (to the stones, for example), and i know acts have sometimes donated the fee straight on (Coldplay for example).

More than that I don't know.

Why would Stormzy accept less than the standard fee? GF have always been very clear that there is one fee for all headliners, big or small. So why would he take less?

I can imagine some artists that were like...oh wow I didn't expect that offer, not yet anyway kind of thing may feel humbled by it so would say I'll do it for next to nothing kind of thing.

Like above Coldplay I can imagine just doing for almost bugger all.

FM seem to be so money orientated (going off their ticket prices) I cant imagine them doing it without extra bunce.

Maybe Lindsey Bucks was the money hungry one who said no to GF previously. Now he's gone the rest of the babe may be more eager?!

Then Stormzy turns to his crew and staff: “Look guys, I know you have mortgages to pay and kids to feed but it’s just so humbling to play Glastonbury I said we’d do it for free. I assume you’re all cool with that.”

I didn't say free did I, and come on. Even if he took 100k to play it, I'm sure even after the split his crew aren't going struggle to pay a couple of weeks of mortgage on that. They'll love it, fancy a crew that last time out were setting up a couple of nights at Brixton are suddenly setting up a Pyramid stage at 10pm...that's a buzz forget about the few thousand they're getting lol

So a crew used to setting up and playing Brixton are going to turn down the massive hike in cash that doing Glastonbury would bring? “I mean I wanted to buy a car, but I thought nah, I’ll just do it for the buzz...”

Even Stormzy & his crew will know what a cash storm will come from headlining the biggest festival in the country would be.

His exposure on The Other stage proved that to my mom & dad.

To be fair they haven’t downloaded any of his music but they know who does Big For Your Boots & they are both nearly 70.

Only one real solution to replacing Macca.....

Put him between Stormzy and The Cure and it suddenly looks balanced...

he should be given one more bash at it..

I know we've had a few people mention that they've been told by someone in the know that X is headlining so I'd take this with a big lump of salt...

About 3 weeks ago a friend of mine went on a date with a guy who 'works in the music industry' and she put in our Glastonbury WhatsApp group that he told her Stevie is headlining the big G and he was pretty adamant.

I didn't want to say at the time as it seemed way off (not touring / struck me as a one-off special booking you wouldn't repeat) and I thought it seemed like he was just trying to impress her or whatever.

Having seen the BST rumours it does look like he's back so you never know. I'm still not buying it but thought it's worth a mention. The guy may have even got confused with BST (ridiculous, I know).

It would make it easier as one less manager to negotiate with. Neil Finn would definitely say yes and take less..

Well I for one would be absolutely made up if this is true. Wasn't at the G in 2010 and Stevie is one of my all time faves. Missed too many legends over the years, I'm hoping this actually happens!

I missed that one as well so like you would love him to appear, though it’s a long shot

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
