On my third listening and I'm definitely a big fan of this. Comfortably a big improvement on Coexist. Lips is about the only track I'm not loving. Dangerous, A Violent Noise and Performance the highlights (as well as the two previously released tracks).

Radiohead sub would be great.

Or see who you like rather than what a forum recommends ;)

The xx's show isn't worth persevering with if you're not a fan. They're nothing special.

Yeah, fair point. I draw my musical tastes from far and wide but I generally find the Efests Glasto team have excellent taste - they have certainly broadened my playlists. But The XX? No.

There will almost certainly be something that clashes for me anyway.

Saw them headline the tent at Latitude in 2010 and they left me wondering if it's possible to have fewer dimensions than one.

OK that's settled it. I'll see something else!

I don't hate the record at all. I've listened to it twice. It's okay in places, quite nice in other, pretty grim in others again!

I like that they haven't made another identical record, but there's quite a bit of cheese on I See You.

A Violent Noise is the best track so far for me. Before listening today I'd have said unequivocally that I wouldn't be seeing them on the Farm in June. That's probably still true, but I wouldn't rule it out, and if scheduling puts them in the frame on the BenFinder®, then I'm prepared to keep them in the running 'til late on.

Enjoying Bonobo's Migration a whole lot more, mind...

:)

BenFinder - or a variant - should be issued to all GPs.

A GPs GPS app, if you will.

Then when the dragon at my local surgery tells me I can't have an appointment to renew my rash cream prescription until 4 months time, I can seek out what pub my GP is currently drunk in, whilst s/he posts on Internet forums and get her/him to sign my repeat prescription in their pissed, childish, indistinguishable-from-when-sober scrawl.

Hopefully there's something out there for you at the same time!

I'll certainly be at the xx, providing they don't have a disastrous clash. I'm loving this new album.

I'm hoping The XX are Friday night and Bootleg Beatles are too, that would be perfect. The last 3 times have been Sunday though so not hopeful. They are a perfect singalong for residents day I guess.

A rubbish bunch of rubbish boring bastards doing rubbish boring music.

On Hold is an embarrassment. If it had been released by an XFactor winner it would be getting slated.

I'd rather stick rusty poles in ears than listen to any more of their garbage.

You could have saved yourself the time and blushes by either a. Not commenting on a thread about a band you don't like or b. Just saying I don't like The XX

No blushes here. I was under the impression this forum was about opinions, no? Anyway, I was invited to comment

I voted you back up.  Wouldn't it be dull if we all followed the crowd blindly?

Okay I've let it sink in. The album goes:

Great opening salvo:
Dangerous
Say Something Loving
Lips
A Violent Noise

Okay, nice production, but a bit forgettable and retreading old ground:
Performance
Replica
Brave For You

Back to being good but lost some momentum:
On Hold
I Dare You
Test Me

I think they've made a mistake by failing to create a clear enough distinction between the band and Jamie xx's solo work. I actually wonder if they should have held back tracks like SeeSaw, Stranger in a Room and Loud Places for this album.

Depends who produced the songs on In Colour i guess.

If they were produced and written purely by Jamie, and he simply asked Romy and Oliver to put vocals on them, then it is fair enough that they were included on his solo album rather than an XX one.

I'm assuming this must have been the case, as if Stranger In A Room and Loud places were produced by the band as the three of them, we would have seen these two, at least, on an XX album.

    • I'm surprised they risked it, especially after nearly missing their Glasto 22 slot under similar circumstances  I did see someome say Ellie didnt sound as strong as recently but I'm guessing playing 3 shows in 2 different continents doesnt help that    On the topic though I can definitely see them doing a Fontaines and having a break over winter before a few final Clearing shows next summer
    • That's fair on WA - I did recall people thinking Fontaines would take this year off before this was announced.    On the subject of Wolf Alice, they did Lollapalooza in Chicago on Saturday then Kendal Calling last night. Bit of an odd choice, no? Half imagine at Kendal that they would've been just exhausted.
    • Just logged onto the app to start planning my days and there really are a LOT of stages missing. Apart from the Seaside Stage there is no Casemates this year etc. Apart from the Seaside Stage, there are no Casemates this year, etc. Can't see anything about the kids field really. And there's local acts that are normally there like Kojak's Revenge that aren't appearing either.  Normally we get down fairly early but I can't see anything before 3pm I'm keen to see. Only one real clash as well, which is good, but it's thin and it's not thin in the sense of "I've seen a lot of these acts before"
