I think the thing that will probably make Lionel unbeatable for this slot is that by this stage he's basically a collection of memes in human form, who actually seems to be in on the joke. In a way there's no one more perfect for the post-irony slot he was booked for to follow Dolly.

Gibb would smash it though, and Turner and Ross both definitely have the tunes.

ELO were good, although much better on their arena tour earlier this year as some have said.

Wanted Elton for 2017, expected Gibb (although have just watched the Coldplay clip and he sounded horrible), but Ross would be a solid booking for it.

I don't think Tina is a realistic shout. Also, her last tour (2009?) was 50% covers.

Madonna ain't gonna headline it now is she? Give her 90 minutes on a Sunday afternoon. 100k+ will go home happy.

When did the legends spot thing start by the way? Was it the 2005 Brian Wilson gig?

92 or 94, depending on who you talk to would be the most common answers.

Although they skipped 2003 and the exact spot within the bill has changed slightly in some years - while it's usually 4th from top, it's occasionally been 3rd or 5th and the typical start time has changed as the Festival now has much longer breaks between sets than it used to especially towards the top of the bill.

Whilst she would be a great choice, Tina Turner hasn't performed a concert since 2009 (according to setlist.fm). She's 76 now and I wouldn't have thought she has any desire to return to gigging after such a long gap. Have any recent Legend Slot performers not played Glastonbury when on a tour of Europe?

Barry Gibb, Diana Ross or George Michael would be fine for me.

Would be fully on board with a Chic legends spot.

If they could persuade Robbie, I reckon Take That would absolutely nail that slot.

Another one in the Diana Ross camp here!

Although I reckon she could be given a full hour and a half headline slot, the amount of hits she has. West Holts headline please!

I would be all over Diana for a West Holts headliner! West Holts is made for disco!

Given Michael's love for The Eagles, Don Henley would be great in that slot (just seen him at Hyde Park).

How was Carole King? She got the chops for a Glastonbury headline set or even the legends??

Absolutely no chance that Madge would allow her ego to accept anything other than a headline slot, no matter how it's sold.

Yup. And even headlining she'd be unlikely to do a greatest hits set.  She's like Mick jagger circa 1986, with a vastly over inflated sense of her own contemporary relevance.

Tina Turner is retired.

I'm sure people have already mentioned in this thread but I cba reading back through 8 pages - didn't Barry Gibb say it was Diana Ross next year?

Would be good but I was having a conversation over the weekend about it - not sure if HER ego would let her accept the legends slot....

    • I read the Kerrang review and they didn’t seem overly positive. The definition of a 6 out of 10.
    • Interesting the stat guys say 3 points and -3 goal difference is where it gets to 50/50 territory in terms of going to the last 32. If Scotland lose their last 2 at best they are on -1, play like they did yesterday and they could take a heavy loss.   However thinking about it positively get 4 points from the last 2 games and the group is won! Have heard a few saying Scotland should just park the bus next 2 games, but not sure they have the players to do it. From my perspective they could really do with a decent defensive midfielder to add balance, but not sure if they have one in the squad. They also need significantly more from Mctominay who I thought was poor, but understand he has been unwell.
    • Yup and they aren't all going to get them, some are going to miss out. Speaking of this, I met someone at RIP who went to RFP and his view was band wise it's value for money but it wasn't a festival itself he'd be rushing to return to. In fairness as well he probably liked more of the headliners there than me this year whereas I was more undercard and he wasn't returning.
    • Maybe Starmer's legacy will be a war with Russia.
    • How were GnR? Seen some videos and pictures and let's just say, the crowd to the sides at the front and in front of the sound tents were let's just say... Sparse compared to LB.
