Out of interest, how did you come to that conclusion?

(Referring to my suggestion that Kylie, Madonna or Taylor Swift would be worthier headliners than Florence).

I'd go with: longevity, success, status and popularity. I'd also throw in quality, but that's more subjective.

EDIT: Just to say, by using the word 'worthy', I appear to have rattled one or two cages and I'm not sure why. The Pyramid is a hallowed stage and whether you use the term worthy, or deserved, or justified, all I'm referring to is that there's a hierarchy of stages for a reason and reason why some don't get to play there. I'm not suggesting Florence isn't worthy or would be a poor headliner, but in terms of the criteria above, others are worthier, if it came down to a choice. There are better acts who would headline that stage, shirley we can agree on that.

Now, I know he is in the USA playing in late June, and this will not be happening. But OH what we are missing? He did not win any Grammys, but, my word, he stole the show by a country mile. John Mayer, Herbie Hancock and Questlove ? Holy Fuck.

In someways Zane leaving is awesome as I'm starting to get a bit of a headache from his voice. But he is the only guy who would play Slipknot or really heavy metal on Radio which makes him a bit of a legend! Also I thought the announcement of Metallicas set was done pretty well by him.

Either way I don't exactly want Annie Mac being the driving voice of the announcement.

They play metal in daytime all the time now - we have it on at work. Always fun seeing my colleagues' reactions when they crack out the Slipknot .

I think it's a bit of a shame really...one less person at Radio 1 who genuinely loves music. Presumably they'll get in more YouTube celebrities or media luvvies to fill the Sunday slot Annie Mac's vacating (who in herself is alright but clearly has no idea what she's on about other than with dance music - this is the woman who announced The Cure as R&L headliners as 'the reformed emo legends').

i haven't listened to radio one in years, because im old (though still younger than Zane Lowe), but is it still popular or are there too many other places to hear music these days that it's losing its importance?
