Of course they do, will be in the contracts.

Just say your promoting blur. You have hyde park tickets to sell and you don't want everyone to be aware of another show. A lot.of people going to glastonbury may buy blur tickets but wouldn't if it was nailed on for them to headline the festival.

What Matt said was individual headliner announcements. So if it's Blur and they sold out their gig instantly, that doesn't mean to say they would have been announced for Glastonbury in the following days because they don't need to sell any more tickets as that's not how it works.

I think they like stringing everyone along, a game - In the past you suddenly got a page ad in NME with all the names but it was only when you arrived and bought a programme you knew who was playing when & where

Well yeah, nobody's saying that it's not a case of them holding back announcements so that acts can sell their tickets. It's just a bit of a wild assumption to think that the remaining headliners are ones that haven't yet announced or sold out their dates because Foos have been announced and the others haven't.

an example for this would be if its Taylor swift, glastonbury would be irrelevant as her show at bst is over the glastonbury weekend (i know it is now sold out)

I would hate that as someone who loves to plan everything in advanced! that would be my Wednesday taken up in my tent filling in a blank clashfinder or something!

Is their any chance it could be either Eminem or Outkast as a headliner? I know neither are on a tour at the moment but prehaps Glastonbury could draw them over as neither have headlined before?

Don't want either of them personally but just trying to think of new names...

I'd absolutely love just to turn up to Worthy and open up the programme to see the lineup.

However with the current arrival social media that the consumerist society is obsessed with I think that it'd fail to work. The programmes would have to be kept in a massive bunker in Siberia.

The impression I've got is that Eminem would never happen, that brings me to the Kanye point. Regardless of what he raps about, he doesn't spent most of his set just moaning about things and singing the same song 8 times.

Outkast isn't going to happen.

Personally I'd love it as I know there's more to it than just the bands that play, but maybe £200+ quid, plus travel, plus gear, plus alcohol... is a little bit much of a gamble to ask most people to spend on a mystery line up... Maybe back in the day when you could all just pile in your mates van and drive without a ticket and still get in, but not these days.

Eh? We have all paid for a ticket based on a mystery line up. We do every year.

I meant by the time of balance payments, where we do know some of the lineup, with an option for some to give it a miss, and the time after that leading up to the festival.

Provided all these names being thrown around have some weight coould we see something like this:

Foals > Foos

ELO > Stone Roses

Taylor > Kanye

This would be fucking fantastic if you ask me, great mix

I don't see Foals sub headlining the pyramid though, Other headliners I'm hoping

The deposits have sold out. It's still a consideration to get people to pay off their ticket and keep people who missed out on their ticket interested.

I understand but surely the overwhelming majority of those people will have been to Glastonbury before so "know" it's not all about the line up as TitP & R&L are. I can't imagine many people not paying up.

I could be wrong.

For many people, the headers will still sell it etc. 2008 has gonw down as not a good year for the fest. I would imagine we are very much going to know the headers before the balance pay off period is over and the ticket resale.

Rappers only go down well topping certain events, not even Jay Z has returned since subbing T a few years back to headline it. And let's be honest, Eminem is in a different league and size here compared to Kanye.

It is now. It was him and Roy wood started it but Roy wood quit very early on. Maybe one album?

There were other permanent members but Jeff bought the name off bev bevan - the drummer - a few years ago so now it's just him.

Richard Tandy has been a constant since the early 70s, so he probably counts

Ok, do you reckon Kanye or Taylor Swift would be more controversial?

The deposit scheme is a really new thing, no one cared before, why would they now?

You're probably right though, I suppose it's just another example of the precious mindset of the crowd these days

    • Kind of crackers how fast this summer seems to be sailing by. But aye, must be some news soon!
    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.

    • I take my lad to the local non-league club - Royston Town - not he's 13, he goes there with his mates and he plays in their youth team.  Not many people there - lucky if they hit 800, but lovely supporting the town team.  I've took him to some league clubs too - Cambridge and Stevenage are great to visit and not crazy prices - his first one was Cambridge v Sunderland (I'm a mackem) when they were in league 1, so a great experience for him.  The England matches aren't too bad value either at Wembley - it's just the parking that stings you. Problem is, he's a City fan, so at some point have to bite the bullet and get him up to the Ethiad. Have done the tour, but he'd love a proper game....my wallet, less so!
