    Shangri La

When you hear these horror stories basically every lass has had at festivals/ gigs, it feels very much in the "ethos" of the festival to have a space that people know theyll be free from harassment. Also a space to celebrate feminism in all its forms. But, I'm sure they've considered it carefully before changing it. I don't even know if it was a used space? Potentially it was quite empty or something.

    Shangri La

Friend went in 2022 when it opened and said it was wicked, proper cool inclusive space. Shame if they've closed it for the terfs or the "when's mens day" crowd like.
  3. I also get excited by the Shangrila announcement, before realising after 5 Glastonbury's I still have zero idea which stage is which, and my entire time there is just spent mooching about.

    Ticket queing

To an extent. It also rewards big groups trying together too. I dunno how you change that though.
  5. I'm genuinely sorry my comment annoyed you enough to drag it back up ten days later. But, to answer your question, the coach sale wasn't any quicker then normal was it? Felt about average? Also, I didn't want to reply the other day as you seemed vexed and I didn't want to argue on the internet. But I feel you have the wrong end of the stick on my initial comment. I wasn't saying that I thought this year was the worst ever for sales for the festival or something and she's completely lying to cover that up. I just think it's probably one of the better ones sure, but she's probably putting a promoters spin on it for the good headlines and take the flak of SZA - which isn't a bad thing! Something like last year with Elton John seemed in my head to be a year which would have potentially more retentions, baring in mind the economic situation in this country right now and the headliners. But I doubt it's a massive difference either way. But I admit what I said was pure speculation. So honestly if it genuinely annoys you so much I take it back and apologise. Life is too short to get angry at each other 😊

    Ticket queing

There's something perversely fair about the Glastonbury ticket drama in my opinion. Those who really want a ticket will generally hang around longer to try and get one. While those who are half-arsed just "trying" will drop out after half an hour or so. I don't know, I'm sure it will change one day, but I personally don't have any complaints.
  7. Frightened Rabbit did a full set in 2016 (?) as well tbf. I'm sure Courteeners did too one year. Im excited for Bloc Party. Great to have them back at the farm after so long.
  8. Hypothetically if the weather doesn't change for the better, and we continue with a rainy weather for the next few months (I appreciate that is very pessimistic, but climate change is pretty wild and it's tipping it down again where I am right now so I'm hardly feeling sunny) right up to the festival. Just how muddy will it be? They've put in drainage since 2016, so you'd normally say it won't be 2005 levels. But this has to be some of the most saturated the ground has ever been. Would even a light rain during the festival lead to a mud bath if the water table is as high as it is currently?
  9. Hahaha that's such a funny way to get caught out. I've literally never heard of any of those acts, anyone got any recs to check out?
  10. When was the WH line up leaked?
  11. Canny strawman. Maybe, as I said myself. I'm actually potentially overestimating the economic issues in this country tbh. But honestly, it's not that deep.
  12. I'm going to be controversial for this place, as we obviously all love the Eavis'. But tbh I don't believe her. I truly believe there will have been years in the past with less turnover. It's a weaker line up and there's so much financial problems people are suffering at the moment. I know people who've thrown there had in the ring, so I concede maybe it's confirmation bias from me. But it smacks of promoter speak to me. Obviously, we will never know one way or the other.
  13. If you're reading this thread, and have the day off on the bank holiday weekend/ aren't too busy, just go pay it now when you have the time. I know of two separate groups of mates who've missed the deadline in the past 😂
  14. Am I correct in thinking it's pissed it down every year Coldplay have played?
  15. Three was absolutely awful last time I went. I know those who are old school will sneer at this. But it was really isolating not being able to catch up with mates via text etc. I'll be getting a separate SIM as well this year I reckon.

    SZA

Couple of questions I've been thinking about this week in relation to this booking: The first is the extent to which a small headliner crowd "matters" to the festival. Obviously logistically there's knock ons throughout the rest of the site. And maybe it'll get social media traction, look bad on telly (?) etc. But it's still a sold out festival? Does it impact future bookings or anything? The second (related) question I had is the extent to which it's the festivals job to try and encourage people to go watch it's headliner. As mentioned they've sold out. Should Glastonbury be really hyping her, and maybe not selecting too many strong clashes etc. to build that crown. Or is it kind of down to the artist themselves to do the job or drawing a crowd, and the festival is pretty standard offish.
  17. The Thursday crushes are so frustrating for newbies especially. I remember thinking this festival is shite when I'd been packed in trying to go to Williams Green etc. it leaves a lasting impression. I think every year that they must be aware of the problems, but they never seem to change anything. We know they monitor these pages, hopefully the ones we've identified early (Faithless, Barry Can't Swim etc ) will mean they consider sorting it in the next few months. I know that the bookers of the individual stages want to flex their muscles, but the top brass should step in and fix things.
  18. SZA will be quiet. Bit like the Cure a few years ago I suppose. I was able to walk straight through that crowd to the toilet and back well easily - the dream! But I suspect over the next few months the hype will grow, and people are always prepared to give headliners a chance! Also there's bigger crowds in general on Sundays... I have no idea what the knock on effect is on a Sunday night though. Do people just leave site early, or do the other sets get absolutely rammed beyond belief.
  19. That's because of the mud tbf. I think it was far better then like 2014

    Peggy Gou, Who?

Sorry but SH?!? she's one of the biggest DJs in the world haha
  21. I feel like the most exciting artists are the ones with something to prove. SZA will be spending the next few months perfecting her set in a way that The Who (for example) never did/ would. This is her big shot, and she'll sink or swim. Success stories from that is Stormzy being the obvious example for me, but Pulp and AM previously.
  22. I'm going to say something very obvious now, but I think it does need to be said . You have to factor in that the true strength of any line up can only be considered entirely in hindsight. It's not really now, it's in 5, 10, 20 years later etc. When you're comparing to previous line ups you're always factoring what they go onto. 100k people are going to be listening to these acts over the new few months. Those that look weak now might have massive crowds by the time of the festival and some of these "new" acts could have their breakout moment and go onto be stars in the future. So when you look back it doesn't look "weak" at all.
  23. Other stage is normally big enough to deal with it tbf. I remember Liam Gallagher playing his first show back there in 2017 (?) and it was rammed but not unsafe. Park can be blocked off as well (Foals secret set etc.) but the tents, pyramid (no candidates this year I dont think) and smaller stages less so!
  24. With a potentially less hyped pyramid then other years there might well be knock on effects down the line up. Who on the line up can you already see issues for? Jamie XX headlining the tent seems at obvious one for me. Potentially Peggy Gou in the park as well. Predicting that Barry Can't Swim is going to be absolutely rammed as well, similar type of crowd/ growing hype to Fred Again but much lower on the line up. Then you have the ones who'll build momentum over the next few months...
  25. I think once the BBC/ British Music Hype machine gets to it she'll be more hyped then The Who.
