It's only me who raised the comparison, for no better reason than those were the people in my mind at the time.

At this point, it could really be anybody, but I'd like to see at least one strong female headliner this year, whether that's Swift, Florence, Kate Bush or anyone of that ilk.

If Madonna's better than Flo, though, why can't she headline in addition to her, rather than instead of?

There is a danger in lazily comparing the few female singer (potential) contenders... BUT the comparison is more than just their gender.

kylie and Madge really are the same genre and a similiar era. Taylor swift came from country but is now a very mainstream pop singer. Florence and the Machine are a band (who make very different music from the others) but half the people watching probably wouldn't realise that and would basically consider them a solo pop singer and backing band.

I don't think we're likely to get any two of them as headliners (though florence and one other is most plausible) but i don't think we're likely to get say madonna and robbie williams either.

Probably. There's a reason he gets the first play of almost every hit record going and gets interviews with Kanye etc, people actively went out of their way to listen to his show. Annie doesn't have anything like the same gravitas, wouldn't be surprised if Reading etc give their announcements to Greg James now.

There is more to Zane Lowe announcing bands at certain times. It is a time a festival audiences are more active on social media and the internet.

They just need a platform to generate a bit of hype. The same is true about records getting played. To trend on twitter / facebook which currently has a massive influence on music, you have to do it at peak times

who was that absolute arsehole radio 1 DJ who was presenting the glastonbury footage in 2000? The very first thing he said after david bowie had put in the greatest headline set ever was "Just the two costume changes tonight then"

It's on the bootleg of the gig I have on my ipod. It makes me incandescent with rage every time I hear it. Not a single mention of the music, just his outfits.

w*nkER.

Well it wouldn't have been Zane, he didn't start at the Beeb until 2002 :) He did pull a similar sort of comment after Beyonce 2011 tho.

That was great, think it was Jo Whiley went on some huge hyperbole-fest over her performance followed by "...I went to watch Queens Of The Stone Age"

:D

Don't think he was ever involved in their coverage again after that, surprisingly.

The crushing jealousy at being upstaged by somebody who has a good radio show looks to have got a bit much for him there. I think in her first little speech, he's having a massive epiphany about how shit he is "Holy shit, she's talking about why something was good, but using... loads of different words, not just saying 'awesome' in a serious voice. Am I rubbish at being a journalist?".

I hated elton at bestival but it could have been the shit ket

Elton played in my hometown on the Sunday of last year's Glasto, and everyone is still banging on about how good he was.

Obviously I was busy  , but I was gutted to miss him so I do hope he ends up headlining this year!!

    • Annie Lennox could be the one to unite the whole forum, nobody has a bad word to say about her, even noted curmudgeon Skip 😄 I'd probably even amble along for a bit meself, and i'm also a miserable sod
    • If the below link works - thats interesting.   While I don't particularly put much stock in that account as a source (never seen it before though, tbf), and I can pick a hole or two (see below) in what he says - the timing of it is a week before I had the Fontaines '27 stadium info (same stadium he says on there, Tottenham). The info, or part of it, matches up.   Holes I'd pick: I'd have to watch again but I THINK he says 'end of year' for Tottenham - not possible, for a number of reasons, though he's probably just got his words mixed up there. It's Summer '27, or that's what I've been told. He also says Glastonbury is/would be based on how the album does. That doesn't stack up to me, unless it was a 2028 thing. I suppose that could stack up, but still seems a bit of an odd approach. I would personally still expect it to be 2027 alongside the stadium gigs, IF they are gonna do it, though I've still not got a Scooby when the album is gonna drop, only that the tour is due for Spring (or early) next year.   Interesting, nonetheless.   https://www.instagram.com/reel/DaOB3Q9qkwW/
    • I was hoping that they would just do a tour like they were set to in 2020, rather than having Download as their UK appearance. If they are at DL, I would be surprised to see them headline. I think they sub under Deftones or SOAD
    • well, we might know by the end of next month if they drop the lineup early again
