i thought most of what Michael had said had been written off as being about Fleetwood / AC/DC, but you might have a point on the 'been around a long time' thing, as that definitely can't be used to describe any of the three/four current heavily rumoured headliners (although not sure on the exact timeframe of that quote). if it is Elton though, where the hell does that put Flo and Swift in the mix? massive subs, or not at all?

it was the end of October.

Michael replied: “Queen? Not Queen, no. Fleetwood Mac don’t seem to be available at the moment. But we’ve got three excellent headliners for next year.”

He went on to confirm that one of the three artists has “been around for a long time” and that all three names will be announced on April 1.

not that Michael Eavis is immune to exaggerating/saying things that aren't true....

No one will remember the Vaccines in 30 years time.

I hope no one remembers them in 3 years, nevermind 30!

Go and vent your anger in a skate-park, while wearing your kneepads and listening to he's just a skater boy. You have no moral high ground here, you lavignette.

it's spelt sk8 actually.

I'm Still Standing? Crocodile Rock?

Seen him twice in the last two years and he was great both times. Would see him at Glastonbury depending on clashes. Preferable to all other likely contenders bar Foos, for me.

Didn't spot I'm Still Standing, i've heard of Crocodile Rock but couldn't really tell you how it goes. Elton has got some belters that's for sure, like you he's definitely preferable to everyone but Foo's for me.

Yeah that's impressive. Tiny Dancer is one of my favourite songs ever, beautiful. made better by Almost Famous. Bennie and The Jets is class too. Some of his 70's work was awesome. His later stuff however, not so!!

Despite the fact that I cannot stand Elton John - and he once nearly got me killed ( long story )

He would be a good Sunday night fit and would please the locals.

I reckon its a straight cat fight between him and Florence

Seriously though I've never understood the Dire Strait hate. I know it's not exactly edgy or anything, and I know why Mardy doesn't like them, but I don't get why people who like floyd or Clapton and all that guitar w#nkery have such a dislike for Knopfler.

Telegraph Road and Private Investigations are both absolute belters.

Prompted by the mentions of Dire Straits on here, I listened to the Love Over Gold album last night. With the exception of Industrial Disease, it's a cracking album!

I think the problem with Dire Straits is that radio stations now only ever seem to play their shittest singles (money for nothing, walk of life, and the godawful twisting by the pool). If you're lucky you might hear private investigations (usually shortened) or your latest trick. So, unless you grew up hearing their albums, and got to know them that way, you're unlikely now to hear anything that might make you want to hear more, so it's not too surprising that they don't have a new generation of fans.

I don't care how long the story is. This needs to be told :)

Ha !

Years ago I went round America on the train and had an overnight stop in Minneapolis. Checked into a B&B and told the guy there I was intending going into down town to check out the bars.

I was told that whilst it was ok to walk into downtown under no circumstances was I to walk back and to catch a cab for my own personal safety.

The walk into downtown was pretty straightforward down a long main road , it was busy, plenty of shops open , petrol stations open and the odd police car cruising by - never felt safer and thought I had been given duff advice by a neurotic local.

Anyways the end of the night came and I wondered around for a bit but no cabs - I went back to the bar and asked where I could get a cab . He came back with the response

"Elton John is playing the arena tonight and it seems all the cabs have gone there for the rich pickings "

I thought I aint waiting for ever and a nice walk back would sober me up and save me the cab fare. Well things had changed. ! - There was no traffic on the main road , every shop was shut up and it looked pretty dodgy. Then I kept passing people on street corners who were certainly not there when I walked in , approaching another street corner I had ten pairs of eyes staring at me and when a couple of em started heading in my direction to sort of walk with me , I just legged it - I ran all the way back in the middle of the road , took a left hand turn at speed and jumped the fence into the garden of the B&B .
