  2. REG: Yeah. All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have the Eavises ever given us in return?! XERXES: The water points? REG: What? XERXES: The water points. REG: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah. COMMANDO #3: And the compost toilets. LORETTA: Oh, yeah, the compost toilets, Reg. Remember what the portaloos used to be like? REG: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the water points and the compost loos are two things that the Eavises have done. MATTHIAS: And the trackways. REG: Well, yeah. Obviously the trackways. I mean, the trackways go without saying, don't they? But apart from the water points, the compost loos, and the trackways-- COMMANDO: Better drainage on site. XERXES: Festival Medial Services. COMMANDOS: Huh? Heh? Huh... COMMANDO #2: Better late licencing for after midnight areas. COMMANDOS: Ohh... REG: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough. COMMANDO #1: And the bars. COMMANDOS: Oh, yes. Yeah... FRANCIS: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, Reg, if the Romans left. Huh. COMMANDO: Glamping. LORETTA: And it's safe to walk the old railway path at night now, Reg. FRANCIS: Yeah, they certainly know how to keep order. Let's face it. They're the only ones who could in a place like this. COMMANDOS: Hehh, heh. Heh heh heh heh heh heh heh. REG: All right, but apart from the water points, festival medical services, better late licencing for after midnight areas , the bars, public order, better drainage on site, trackways, compost toilets, and less mudbaths, what have the Romans ever done for us? XERXES: Booked Coldplay. REG: Oh. Coldplay? Shut up!

  4. Can you imagine the Daily Mail reader reaction? Screaming raging crying. Definitely comments like Talent over Gender!!!! (That weird assumption that it would be untalenred perforners that comes from god knows where). If the word woke is not mentioned 7 or 8 times I'd be amazed. They definitely say the festival was finished. People who have not listened to any music since 1992 will be saying its lost it's way. Full on grown up men having tantrums in the comment section of clickbait facebook articles.. . So what I'm saying is I'm up for that. Sounds good 😉

  6. In that Annie & Nick podcast, Emily said "It'll make sense when we reveal our line-up, there's a reason why we've held off a little longer." I'm not sure we've given this particular sentence the 28 pages of scrutiny that it deserves.

  9. It's likely that any artist with other shows to sell (or who wants to get promo for the album out, or various other reasons) will have an agreement with GFL along the lines of "can't be announced before X date". If that date hasn't arrived yet, then GFL can't announce the act, regardless of whatever else is happening. If BST have him then they've paid him a substantially higher fee, in which case they're likely to insist on a measure of exclusivity for their money. Whereas Glastonbury paying a cut price fee are in no position to negotiate that. So BST will insist that nothing else can be announced before they do - We've seen that with other shows, for example most recently the Kings of Leon BST date was announced a couple days before the rest of the tour.

  10. Seemed like Americans talking there. So I'd pretty much ignore all of it.

  14. I feel like the context of having no headliners AND no poster is important though @Gnomicide - in 2015 the Kanye and Arcade Fire news was out before the balance deadline I’m sure

  18. It is in the headline spot. Personally i think the depth of the festival is demonstrated by quality lower down the line up. Putting two big names up against each other with little on lower down the line up feels like a waste of booking funds to me.

  20. I think his operation was a while ago now so I don't think they are waiting on that. He played at the Grammys and looked back on form. I was coming at it more from the point of view that he wasn't someone who has been touring or on the live circuit for 5 years (I think) and so it might have been a late call (last year) that he was a potential.

  22. At the Bath and West Showgrounds - a little way East of the festival site. It's far enough that it doesn't appear on the map, and needs a shuttle bus to get to/from.

  23. Was thinking some of the undercard names, wouldn't surprise me if the likes of Quade, Benefits, HAAL, Colossal Squid, AK/DK made an appearance. Pretty good lineup in general I think.

  26. I did get ear protectors the first year I took my eldest but he wore them once and then didn't bother again, and have never took them since. It's not really needed imo, unless you're sitting right close to a speaker stack. The sound is quite diffuse at the distance you're likely to be from the stages with a kid. Might be worth having on you just in case, though. Yeah, Kidz Field, Circus, Theatre, Acoustic, Cinema are all within minutes of each other, and the Pyramid isn't more than a few minutes amble further away. You could (and I have, many times) spend the entire day just in that relatively small footprint of the site and not see a single band play a single note but still be 100% entertained from start to finish. There's also an open air circus there with wooden bleachers for sitting that I've seen some really good shows at, too. And until a few festivals ago, there'd also be a "gorilla enclosure" set up around there that my eldest used to get real freaked out about... the costumes and the way the actors moved around were just a bit too realistic for him... haha. Happy memories, man. Loads of food stalls in that area, too, including some good ones for the kids; the wood fired pizza opposite the Astrolabe in the T&C field is a really good meal for a kid. There's a great smoothie stall opposite the main entry to the Kidz Field, they sell fresh fruit as well as smoothies if your kid needs a healthier energy boost. There's usually a crepe stall next to that, too, nutella crepe recommended for kid's breakfast! Seriously, that area is a festival in and of itself, you don't need to go and do anything else! 😄

  27. If you are desperate to find a particular stall it’s worth going to the information points as they usually have a list/map of all traders in market areas.

  29. Looking at the dates when Stevie Wonder was previously announced for Hyde Park concerts (2010, 2016 and 2019), they all seem to be mid to late March time. And interestingly, he was announced for Glastonbury 2010 in February. Hopefully a good sign

  30. Maybe Stevie Wonder has stipulated it, on the basis that all of the Glastonbury tickets are sold already, and that he's agreed to play for a fraction of his usual fee?

  33. Would be better than pretty much any other touted headliner so far imo, but she isnt really a very green man booking so would say probably not. she literally never misses though live and is one of the last truly great living legends that arent too big for something like green man.

  37. I'm convinced I heard or read that FWF are confirmed but can't find anything with a search online. I'll have to confirm with the partner in crime but I'm sure I told her about it, mainly because she really doesn't like them. Unless I dreamt it all.😕

  38. Went to C&S at Drumsheds on Friday night and was pretty underwhelmed by the whole experience - and having looked on social media that looked like the general feeling too. The majority of it was caused by the venue itself. Doors opened at 6 with the curfew supposedly at 10.30. We turned up at about 7.10 after getting away from work. By the time we were past the various queues / security lines, it was 8.15 when we were actually in. Not a great start when it was already a short night - and then it looked like we were barely getting 2 hours of music. The queues obviously weren't helped by everyone turning up in a tight time period, but surely they could have different / more entrances. Some of the funnels were ridiculously narrow when you're expecting thousands of people to pass through within 90 - 120 minutes. I thought maybe we had just timed it badly but I've seen comments from people getting to the venue at 6 and basically missing all of Lens' (warm up DJ) set anyway - I don't think she finished until 8. By the time we got to the main room it was about 8.30. We saw 15 mins of Flowdan which was pretty flat - think everyone would have just preferred some drum & bass. He finished at 8.45. There was then 30 mins of set up / emptiness before C&S came on, with no music and spells of boos/whistling from the crowd as everyone frankly got bored. C&S come on at 9.20 and we're then thinking 'are we only getting an hour?!' The set itself was decent and they couldn't have done much better pulling out some old classics and getting guests like Becky Hill, Tom Grennan, Ardee on. The new front man/MC isn't a patch on Rage though. We stood about 3/4 back in the centre for the first 30 minutes and the sound was pretty terrible - I'm not sure if it was a mixing issue but we all noticed how tinny it was and the tracks weren't coming through properly. We then moved a bit forward into one of the side channels which was a lot better, but still not as good as Printworks. I was at Wembley Arena last Saturday for a gig and even the sound there was levels above Drumsheds. C&S ended up playing past the supposed curfew, up until about 10.50. Getting out of the venue and back to Meridian Water station then took over an hour, moving at a snails pace before repeatedly getting held in the last alleyway to 'regulate' train and taxi queues. When we finally got to the station we just missed a Liverpool Street train that barely had anyone on it. On the train home we then realised we had spent as much time queuing to get in/out of the venue as we had being in there. There were a few others on the train who had the same experience and loads more on social media by the looks of it. Not to say those nights aren't a lot more difficult to manage than all-dayers but I think Friday night will have put a fair few thousand off from ever going back...

  43. If there’s a headliner that floats your boat on WH but you’ve got a clash I’d say give it a second thought before you bin off the WH act because it’s got such a great atmosphere… it’s weird because the stage itself is fairly standard and unremarkable but it has a certain something that you can’t quantify really. Bicep and Justice on WH are two of my absolute fave gigs ever!
