A friend of a friend is doing a pre party on 33 Oldham Street. 3pm-7 (but tbh  getting to the gig could be difficult if you left at 5 ish)

I am going to be in the Red Lion in Prestwich or the Woodthorpe from about 1 o clock for pre gig atmosphere.

The star & garter is a decent pub, just make sure the after parties include  Wednesday.

Cheers - I assume Prestwich is a tram ride from the centre? The after party is def happening Wednesday at those two places - there were some I saw, including the official one, that was only the weekend gigs.

Everywhere in town will likely be bustling in the day - you won't go far wrong. Just be careful getting to the gig. We ubered from a mate's in south Manchester but I believe trams & buses were an absolute shitshow. I'd be inclined to set up in a bar in Prestwich earlyish.

If you're just after a good post-gig singalong - what you've listed will be fine, and there'll be plenty more. Everywhere is at it. Again though - it's getting back to town. I ended up doing the walk on Saturday.. again. Despite living here, I still underestimate it.

Cheers - how long is the walk? Ticketmaster email says 50 minutes but looking on Google maps that feels ambitious. Whilst long from what I've read it seems the most straightforward?

Yeah it's straightforward enough.

Depends where you come out of and your destination but front standing exit to Victoria Station was an hour to 1 hour 15.

Admittedly mine took even longer because I had to find somewhere for a piss en route and also stopped at a takeaway.

You'll do well to do it in less than an hour.

Good review here if you have not seen it yet.  By my own admission, my default is cantankerous cynic but have been pleasantly surprised and even moved by some of the stuff i have read and seen from the Heaton Park shows.

Admittedly, John Robb is a tad Manchester biased but still a good objective read

I don’t know Manchester at all but they also had Oasis branded signs hanging off lampposts showing the walking route from the city centre to Heaton park.

We got a cab so can’t testify as to how helpful these signs were but noticed a lot of them on our taxi journey to the park

Late posting here but I'm only just home and processing my three week holiday which included Glastonbury, Oasis, and a Scottish road trip!

I was at the first night in Cardiff, and wowee it was incredible. The atmosphere beforehand in Cardiff was super. People were feeling it and everyone I met was excited and lovely. Cast were enjoyable and Richard Ashcroft was excellent, although both paled in comparison to Oasis who were extraordinarily good. Hit after hit, we were bowled away. Okay so there were a few flying beers (at least it wasn't pee), and people tired of jumping a few feet in the air after the first few songs as we're all that bit older, but that didn't stop anyone from having fun. Walking out caked in sweat and beer with massive grins on our faces was a peak moment of my gig going life 😁 They nailed it. And that was the first night before they got into their groove!

We're front standing so the right side of the park from what I can see to head back to the city centre.

Heaton Park is basically in Prestwich.

Prestwich Tram stop is the stop after Heaton Park if you are coming from Town. There are plenty of pubs around.

The Woodthorpe will be hammered early which is why I might go in the Red Lion. No frills, but Ive been in therr a few times.

Good choice mate. Might see you in there. Perhaps the Foresters if you want something a bit more "sawdusty".

True story.  My pal worked in The Woodthorpe for a good whille.  The Landlord banned Mark E Smith as he kept bringing his own cans in to sup despite numerous warnings.  At the time, Holts (the brewery that owns the pub) was arguably the cheapest pint in the country.

I didn't find any issues with the queues at all, there were lots of toilets. I also used big green bus, they didnt set off til midnight so don't bother rushing!

EDIT: replied to wrong thread, that was for @Pinhead

Coming on the Big Green Coach, did you have to walk all the way round to West Gate or Valley Gate entrances to get in, or did they let you enter from North Gate which is closer to the coach drop off / pick up alongside Sheepfoot Lane?

On the Friday we had booked the shuttle bus and went to get it at around 4.30. The queue was 90 mins as was the queue for the tram and the stewards were advising people to walk. We got a bolt cost £30 from town. Got the shuttle bus back. From the last note to getting back to town took 2 hours on the bus.

id recommend prestwich for pre gig pubs.

Anyone heading to Prestwich, there are lots of smaller bars near the tram stop Maccas Bar and the Crooked Man. Plus two fantastic pizza restaurants in Croma (a Manchester institution) and up and coming Rudy's.

Plus anyone traveling back to Manchester, just walk back to Prestwich tram stop and you will be back in Manchester much quicker than via Bowker Vale.

Hopefully Manchester council can sort the travel issues out for today / weekend; unreal gig probably instant Top 3 for me but the travel was brutal

Uber'd to the Tesco on the outskirts and walked in and then the long draining walk back after into Northern Quarter for me! £16 uber around 5pm which was better than expected, attempted the tram, saw the snake queue and opened the app😄

I've just realised en route to the office in town that it's gonna be hell getting home after work later.

Didn't think this one through.

Still not over Saturday, though. Those going tonight/at the weekend - cherish every moment.

Do we know what sort of time the front wristbands are likely to run out today?

Also how long would we be looking at to walk from central Prestwich pubs to the front standing entrance? Will the tram in that direction be packed?

I believe you can enter at the North Gate, but we didn't as we went for drinks elsewhere first so can't say for sure.

So you would have litter, and where do people go to the loo?

last Saturday loads of people came down the hill to try and break in.

and these ones people were planning on travelling especially for it and those added people with everyone from the actual shows trying to leave would have made congestion even worse.

it’s a shame but I understand why they had to close it off.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
