So if Brandi Carlisle got to play at 4pm instead of at noon cause Kneecap had to swap thats not going to be better for her?

And what happens to whoever was playing at 4pm?

I am now wondering if everyone just wants it to be the same so that their precious schedule stays the same that theyve mocked Up on Clashfinder and they dont run into any issues.

Yeah that's it.

Obvious when you put it like that.

Silly me.

Was crazy to put them on WH to start with

Eh, I’m not so sure. They would’ve done well but I think it’s pretty obvious that a large portion of the mammoth crowd they’re gonna get now are gonna be there because of the renewed spotlight and controversy they’ve been having and to be part of a ‘moment’. Got first hand experience of at least two people in my group who had no interest in seeing them with me last year now deeming them a must see in the past month. I think Other would’ve been the better place for them initially fwiw, but don’t think Holts would’ve had any real trouble containing the crowd pre-controversy. Now it’s almost definitely a turn up early or don’t bother turning up at all type deal like Sugababes last year.

I enjoyed them at Wide Awake. Lots of energy but an hour and a half did feel long for them. Boring truth about Kneecap is they're ropey rappers with some good beats and a pretty mainstream position (stop the violence) on Palestine. They weren't chanting River to the Sea, praising the resistance etc. Just pretty standard call outs of state violence and messages of solidarity.

Think we all just need to calm down a wee bit about the whole furore and centre the Palestinian people. Nobody and nothing else (bar the hostages being held still who should all be freed as soon as there is a commitment to end the violence) matters right now.

While I dont disagree with your point, it seems pretty clear that there has been a concerted effort y bad actors to centre Kneecap as a means of distracting from the bigger issue - and it's not been something that band have specifically intended.

To an extent it has been a successful sleight of hand, but I dunno if it's panned out in quite the way intended given the solidarity that has mobilised in Kneecap’s defence.

I do think they have become bigger since last year. Their film was widely released after Glastonbury and a fair few people I know came to know kneecap through that (albeit we’re probably not talking huge numbers). Similarly one of my friends suggested fine art for our album club in October last year. So I do think there has been a progression in their appeal since Woodsies last year (which was very busy for an 11.30am slot). That said, I did think west holts would have coped with them without too much issue until Sharon Osbourne got involved.

You seem to have entirely ignored the Irish aspect of their story, which is what brought them to the attention of many of us.

Yeah, their usp wasn’t that they were rappers from Belfast it’s that they were rapping as gaeilge.

It seems to me that as the full lineup for the big G is imminent that we would surely have heard something by now were they going to be dropped.

The festival have kept well out of the whole situation thus far, and it's plain to anyone with more brain cells than a brassica that for many this was an opportunity to stick it to a festival that is widely hated by a section of the right as much as to a band that has spent their career thumbing their nose at the British establishment along with voicing subversive political ethos (which should not be a crime).

As this thread has shown, as a topic of debate support for the band is effectively polarised into whether you view the actions of the current Israeli administration as being an ongoing genocide or not, and to a lesser extent whether you view the actions of pro-Palestinian organisations in the region as being acceptable retaliation to an existential threat.  My conscience is clear over which side of those particular views I stand on.

BBC website are reporting that the group pulled out after the Police raised concerns, instead they're playing a gig at the Glasgow Academy, good to see that they're just like the rest of us, show us the money!

Band plays gig … surely nothing to see here ?

The concerns around Transmt are about their support for Irish republicanism than the Gaza situation.  The toxic atmosphere between both sides of the sectarian argument added to the alcohol and drug fuelled crowd could be a disaster. At least their gig that’s going ahead in the city will have an audience that’s there just to see and enjoy them.

Indeed, not that I personally agree with the situation or that there is anything about Kneecap playing that would encourage or make more likely sectarian violence, but that's clearly the reasoning they are following.

Yeah, reckon you are spot on. When I lived in Glasgow, old firm derby days were a pain in the arse for everyone else. I lived in the West End, so far from either stadium, but still had the mirrors kicked off my car a couple of times a year. There’s a reason they put them on before the pubs open!

    • If Werchter pulled in Blink and Foos plus like Sabrina if she's touring and got System if they are I'd be more inclined to try it vs RIP if they got Blink, Foos and System. I don't at the moment, maybe reflection will be different, think that RIP is greatly setup for overseas travelling over. It feels more like currently day festival days with a camping over separate rather than hotel as its included.
    • I think many US people are fed up with the US and have definitely discovered how amazing it is to come to Barcelona for a better experience and way cheaper than back home.   Surely PS doesnt set up a huge commercial festival only to not put in place a system where QR codes can’t be re-used?
    • They'll get Foo Fighters as well.
    • That as a surprise along with The Cure is the best part of the lineup so far.   Probably means though she's about next year again.
    • I also dont think Deftones will tour next year.   But I think RIP will have both Foos and Blink and if SOAD fo festivals that will be your 3.
