Already posted my list but a shoutout for my pleasant surprise of the year… Muse. A band I’d long lost all interest in and hadn’t really bothered with since a string of underwhelming albums and a stinker of a GF show in 2016.

Was offered a cheap ticket to their O2 gig in October and went along with fairly low expectations… was absolutely blown away by how good and how much fun that gig was.

Had to struggle to think of what gigs I went to, 2023 was a bit of a blur for various reasons. Had to go back into my ticket purchases to remind myself, and depressingly I seem to recall incredibly little of Glastonbury 😞

Having a stab at 5 instead:

Mogwai - Brighton Dome
Death Cab For Cutie - Brighton Dome
Max Richter - Park (shout to @bennyhana22 and @Titters for taking me to that one)
Teskey Brothers - Other (ditto to @Gnomicide)
Dub Pistols - Concorde 2

Not quite a gig so it gets an honourable mention, but finally saw Wheel Of Four Tunes on Sensation Seekers and it was an absolute joy.

Honourable mentions for pleasant surprises to Gwenno on Park and Dylan (not that one) at Victorious.

This is why I take at least one photo of every act I see. I'd have forgotten a fair few from 2023 without going back through my photos.

Four Tet with Squid Soup at Ally Pally

Moderat at Warehouse Project

Everyone else was fine but those two... *chef's kiss*.

Four Tet was probably gig of a lifetime for me, made all the more special by going on a little jolly to London all on my own.
