2025 Headliners

Not sure we need another source but from a conversation today Fred appears definitely out, from someone who should know his plans due to involvements this year. Also went on to say 1975 were now in without any prompt.

It's not a friend of a friend jobby, it's a direct conversation. But can never take things to be 100%, certainly not Glasto anyway as things seem to so changeable. But it's another notch on the 1975 odds.

For what it's with I think they more than deserve the shot, fan or not can't think of many UK guitar bands with the appeal they have particularly with the younger generation, and anyone who saw the latest run know they have a show in the locker more than ready for the big triangle.

I'm sure they're always trying to get the best balance.  But this year definitely tested my faith. Record-breaking number of fumbles.

I've said elsewhere tbf that I think I genuinely would've had a decent time at this year's Glastonbury without even visiting the Pyramid at all, which is an achievement.

Certainly I'm aware there's concerns about what is or isn't around in '25, particularly given Reading's profound slice of meh. Even if who's around in August means fishing in a different stream, or whatever metaphor comes to mind.

when I was a young man and I used to go Glastonbury for a lot less money (like zero) I didn't give a flying f**k about headliners and missed most of them and seemed to spend most of it sitting down chatting bollocks to people during day and either wandering around in a confused state or dancing outside chip vans at night and had the best time ever but missed the all time classic headliners that people still talk about and in hindsight I wish I'd seen.

But, now it's a lot more money, and I demand value for money, and I can't be dancing outside a chip van all night at my age.

I keep saying it, but with 100 odd stages and music on for about 19 hours in 24, it’s actually impossible for the line up to be bad or even average.

Hunt them out, there’s always more than enough quality acts on.

100% agree. Last years line up continues to be slated but I was entertained throughout, saw fabulous acts old and new.

Last year’s lineup was great, especially between 10pm and 5am, which is when it really counts

Chappell’s gonna get biggest crowd of the weekend imo.

Reckon she might have cooled off a bit by then.

Though not If she's got another Good Luck, Babe in her quiver before her next album. Amazing to watch a tune become an instant classic straight out the box.

I had a great time. No dead air in the day and having an absolute hoot the whole time.  But it wasn't a vintage programme.

Think she’ll at least have another single or two out by then so can’t see the hype dying off, especially as it’ll probably be her first U.K. show since that short run of tiny venues she did recently. Coming after the already bound to be packed Nile sure to help too.

Yes I agree. There’s been such hype around her. Even my mum (75!) sent me an article saying she’d read about her stage shows and thought I’d be interested. Must admit I was late to the Chappell party but been listening to her album on a loop over the last few days and love it. Would definitely go and see her.

So what’s the biggest factor in all of this uncertainty? Dearth of top acts available? Glastonbury not on the ball? Glastonbury £ rates? Acts can earn huge sums on the arena circuit? Too many other festivals in competition?

Its a combo of all of them. If you have nobody available, who do you book. If artists say no for whatever reason, what do you do. Since theres only the exclusive tag to worry about in the uk and eu then its a matter of who says yes, money aside. And these acts can tour around it and get money elsewhere if thats an issue.  You can argue that they are sometimes behind the curve instead of ahead of it. Sza def will halt their progression theyve been making. Neil Young is a clear sign of that regardless of status. Fest comp wise it certainly doesnt matter since you announce so late, its sold out and everyone announces prior and sells tickets.  This isnt america, much different where its how you see it. More money touring solo or taking the Live Nation route of playing 10 Lollapaloozas and watering down all the lineups. And Ive said it, they arent a king maker festival, so they just try to maneuver when it bests suits them on a new artist to be highly billed or headline. The irony here anyway is that coachella gets sh*t on because its an "influencer" festival. Yet they pay artists top dollar. Glastonbury doesnt pay  much and pays with "exposure" aka influencer payment.  I know they cant change their formula because this is for charity, but you just wonder whats gonna happen during the fallow because financially things will change a lot for artists, esp in america.

To be fair, when I'm writing a longer piece in a text box on my phone I tend to write it out in notes and then copy it over. Easier to proof and edit. Could be something like that, or yeah as you're suggesting.

Also, how do you get dark mode here? Can't see it in the settings

You might have to be a gold member to get dark mode  but there's a toggle in the website footer for 'Theme'

You can prob get your phone to do it though?

You talk of Neil Young being a step back. As far as I see it, it’s simply he’s Michael’s favourite artist and neither man is getting younger so Emily is trying to give her dad that one last favourite memory of the festival. It is my opinion that if Neil was available any other recent years he would have played. On whether he is relevant in 2025 yes that is debatable, but the fact is he tours so infrequently his stock remains high therefore he headlines.

Fully agree with the above and I would add what I have said a million times - if you don’t like what’s at the top of the bill at Coachella then you can go to one of the few other stages.

most of the magic at glasto happens away from the pyramid stage or ANY of the main stages - you won’t get that at Coachella
