Dear God. Drank Grimbergen at a wedding in France, didn't realise how pokey it was until we were several beers deep. Absolutely battered.

Pfft it’s only 6.7%, the same strength as the weakest beer I could find in my fridge this evening: Fuerst Wiacek - Dream #3

I wouldn't call it lack of resilience, just a refusal to put up with bullshit that previous generations have accepted.

I suppose that depends on what your definition of bullshit is. I've been in plenty of "crafty" bars where the staff are more concerned with modelling their tattoos than actually doing a bit of hard graft. If a person is not willing to work hard, I tend not to have much sympathy if they feel they're getting a hard time.

Edit: I should point out that I'm speaking in general terms and I'm not saying Brewdog staff (or anyone else for that matter) don't have valid complaints. I simply don't know if they do.

To compare, this is the price list and options from the MAIN bar at Bearded Theory last time around. You can also take own drinks to the stages.

That’s really reasonably priced too.
I’m a lager drinker though, so would be stuffed if I didn’t like the Helles or standard lager. Probably would like the Helles though!

hang on - what exact year was that drinks menu from ?

## in general prices will roughly be current London pub prices ##

was in a pub { not a fancy Pub } London Pub last week and they were selling
some fancy type of Ale { god knows what it was as my friend was drinking it } but I did clock the price and it was £6.75 and Fosters lager was £6.25

so unless you have a Time machine I doubt you will see any of the main Public Bars selling any Pints at £4.00

Last time I was in The O2 Arena {Millennium Dome} it was £7 for lager  and when the Stones played at London Stadium {also known as Olympic Stadium - near Stratford} in 2018 it was £7.50 for lager.

2019. The last time the festival went ahead. I know, crazy right? They use it as a selling point on their poster.

I can confirm it was 2019, it's the reason we don't take much of our own drink to Bearded and use the bars. And yes, the beer was cheaper than the pubs in York. For example, the Titanic Chocolate porter was over £5 a pint  when I bought it the following weekend. It's been that way for the 5 years that I've been going.

The only thing that makes me think it might change this year is the partnership with DHP Family, the company that owns Rock City.

One of the many things I love about Bearded is their bars, not only is it very reasonably priced but they also have a great selection. I have never found myself queuing for a particularly long time either, even at the main stage bar. I like that some of the bars rotate their drinks over the weekend too so there's lots of new stuff to try, it's like having a mini beer festival within the main event.

I wish Glasto had better beer choices, Carlsberg is the pits and I can't drink cider all day so I usually just end up drinking a lot of cans.

The issue you have is that there arnt many brewery's in the country who could supply Glastonbury to cope with demand/logistics.

Although Plum Porter on draft would be the cherry on the cake. That's got me thinking about taking some of the cans this year.

Ill happily buy cider bus, brothers and if its thatchers on the main bars, that.

although wasnt it “mallets” whatever the hell that is recently

if you want some craft beer just bring your own cans. The amount of choice in cans these days is staggering. I dont expect to be able to buy any good beer on draft sadly, so i just bring a few ipa’s, stouts etc for a bit of variety.

if i want to treat myself i’ll grab a cocktail from beat hotel, bimble inn or stonebridge bar.

glasto is around 10 times bigger than something like bearded theory and just cant offer that choice at volume sadly. Smaller fests can specialise thats the beauty of them

If I want decent beer at Glastonbury I'll bring it myself. I actually don't mind the bland lager at the main bars if it is a hot day it will do just fine, a Glastonbury day is a marathon not a sprint and I don't need top drawer beer for that. Cider Bus cider is not only the best drink on offer at the festival it also the best value.

I'm still optimistic it will be in the £5/£5.50 range maybe £5.50/£6. Compared to stadium and arena shows Glastonbury is much less of a rip off.

As for last years festivals Bloodstock was a fiver a pint iirc and £4.50 for cask. Held at the same venue as Bearded Theory so maybe Catton Park is just a great value venue.

Not a big fan of craft ale. Will drink it but i think its mainly for yanks and cowards who don’t really like the taste of beer so they make it taste like fucking grapefruit or whatever.

So it got me to thinking just now reading your post. Real ale doesn’t come in cans because of the nature of the beast.

But i wondered if there was such a thing as real ale in a bag in a box..

Turns out there is!!

Here is a bath based brewery who do a real ale in a bag in a box**:

https://www.abbeyales.co.uk/store/c1/Featured_Products.html

There were other breweries on Google doing it too. Defo gonna get one in!!

**36 pints worth No less!

'yanks and cowards' ffs 😅 there's nothing like a bit of reverse snobbery is there? i'm up for anything in terms of beer really, i like to see how breweries can try out new ideas with fruit/adjuncts, and i also like traditional styles done well - the current dark mild fashion is very much up my street. By all means drink the beers that you want to drink and enjoy them, but insulting others who prefer a more eclectic choice seems a bit reductive.

edit: dont know if going by your location, you're making a big meta-joke about Omnipollo 😃

This made me chuckle, I usually use a Piss-perfume spectrum on most craft beers, but I’ll readily admit there are some gorgeous ones that go down beautifully in the sun, and they work better in a can, have to have my London Pride and Whitstable Bay in a glass bottle only

EOTR does real ale / craft beer and always runs out before the end. I imagine Glasto would run out by Wednesday night! 😄

The carlsberg at Glasto is recycled straight from the urinals!

I love cask ale in a pub that serves it properly. Nice and cool.

direct, warm dispense from the cask not through a hand pump at a festival, i’ll pass. Its just not the same for me.

if youre buying a pint at glasto you want it cold to counteract the “not as cold as you’d like them to be” cans you’ve likely been drinking

as for bag in box fine but transportation? Whats the point of 36 pints you can’t carry that barely to your campsite never mind around the festival. We do like westons wyld wood cider in 3L bag in box mind.

also agree with the other poster that mentioned marathon not a sprint. I wouldnt want to be on heavy hops all day, you need something easy drinking and sessionable.

I also remember places like the Bimble being way cheaper, is there a reason for this?

the guy who run bimble inn operates from a tax haven (i forget where), so he might not be paying tax.

This is exactly what I'd do. Buy a few for variety.

HAHAHAHA - think this is probably true. That said, you like what you like, so drink what you want...
