That has to be an indication of where this is headed for festivals? 21st of June is the earliest all social contact restrictions can be lifted. Doesn't mean they will, especially for mass gatherings. There is an event research programme starting this month and goes into the summer. Phase 1 has been announced, with some test events taking place in April/May and results by end of May. Phase 2 will likely take place in June and into July.

Not sure but the surrounding infrastructure may be more of a concern than the venue itself. A sold out Wembley means properly packed tube trains from London, pubs, etc. Less people means it's easier to manage the arrival and dispersal. All of a sudden it seems really close! Certainly too close for comfort, with vaccine the first dose rollout delays and uncertainty. Are there any fests lined up for July? Latitude and WOMAD both in July.

Or none of us read the small print. To be fair, the government were pretty clear and insistent that all dates on the roadmap were qualified with 'not before' and warned that they could slip. The small print was actually pretty large. I think a lot of promoters and organiser jumped on those dates given and started publicising their planning in order to exert some pressure on the government to resist any slippage.

sisco
6th July is when the semi final is and they’re planning to have 45,000 there (minimum). That’s got to give these outdoor (mostly) festivals lots of hope

All legal limits on “social contact” I took to mean that you can have all your mates round for a party etc. Not necessarily that mass events would get the go ahead. To me also, the big difference is that in football games they can have security keeping people distanced and they will be gaps between them being sat. In a festival, security aren't going to have that power. People roam where they want and get as close in/as tight to see their band as they want. True but there is also the concourse area - go to 40,000 and that's just as bad, you can't control that flow within the timeframes needed. If we need distancing still when you've got majority vaccinated people and all with negative tests I'm not sure how we'll ever reopen properly Edited April 8, 2021 by efcfanwirral
