I believe this was in the week upto August 12

Yup.  Figures are also a bit off...there was a 14% case increase in week to 12th July and a 1% drop in tests.  In week to 19th there was a 9% case increase and a further 1% test drop.

Not much to see here.....

Am I the only one chilled at the moment about it all?

A rise in cases but no dramatic increase on hospitalizations or deaths...

I think everyone also needs to remember we know much more about this virus than we did 5 months ago.

I'm personally quite positive about the situation.

Not necessarily chill but I'm expecting an increase in cases come the winter so I'm taking advantage of the relatively low numbers whilst I can to socialise and enjoy my self a bit.

not necessarily true.

I reckon there's an opposite effect within England, that the more likely Scotland is to return SNP MPs the more likely England is to vote tory.

I think it's likely that if Scotland was still returning mostly Labour MPs that one of the past 3 elections would have been won by Labour - because (policies aside, and outside of Scotland) why would people want a UK govt comprised of a party that doesn't want the best for the UK?

As well as extras even-more-extras for Scotland (the SNPs overriding policy within the UK) being at the expense of their own area - when people everywhere tend to vote on the basis of "I want more for me". If most people didn't vote on the basis of "I want more for me" the SNP wouldn't be winning in Scotland. ;)

There can be little doubt that the folks living in Scotland not returning loads of Tory MPs is the reason for these ongoing decades of Tory rule in the UK.

In the same way that all 32 wards in Scotland voting to remain led to Brexit. Obviously....

Johnson is ultimately unimportant though. He is easily replaceable. It's not like the Mail is going to come out in favour of Labour.

is he easily replaceable though? I know he doesn't do the detail and is pretty lazy by all accounts, and others like Gove and Cummings are effectively running the show...but Johnson was a big reason a lot of people voted tory in the last election. Can you imagine Gove or Raab doing the same?

Actually...saying that...the future could be Rishi Sunak...although things might about to go pear shaped for the economy and he will be in the firing line.

Does Mrs Gove work for the Mail? That could be what this is all about, to eventually get Michael Gove in power, he’s friends with Cummings after all.

Yup.  Johnson's outlived his usefulness for the Mail.  Brexit is happening and the Tories have a big old majority off the back of his bluster and other nonsense.

Yeah but it doesn't matter what the public thinks for another four years. Tory leadership battles don't really need a public vote of confidence for a while.

Pretty sure she works for The Times?

yeah, maybe not. I mean...she's useless, I'm not denying that...I think I was mainly pointing out that politically she is in a lot better place than others in the list. She's very popular with a certain type of tory...the type that joins the party and goes to conferences.

yep, the string-them-up types. Which is what Patel is too.
