Missed this the other day. Not a surprise really

Im super dubious about 'nurse have been told' and another one was 'funeral directors have been told'...

As Neil says, its probably just gossip rather than official Policy

Has the potential to spectacularly blow up in JRM's face. The whole point was to try and pretend it was perfectly safe for schools to open and for people to go back to work (I don't think it was really about giving BJ some whoopers), if Sharma does indeed have COVID-19, it will simply (and very publicly) confirm the fear of those they were trying to convince

The MP's werent happy anyway about the new voting system, so i doubt this will help...

Does anyone else wonder if they are intentionally going for a second wave now in the hope of getting their long wished for herd immunity before Winter??

Yes, but mainly because I don't think anyone could otherwise be as spectacularly inept and nonsensicle as they and their decisions have been. But then again sometimes I think maybe they are just spectacularly inept- it's really hard to tell these days.

I'm no fan of Mogg, but I reckon having someone from the party of govt in charge of HoC rules (subject to an MPs vote) is probably the best way of doing it. It would be madness to have a non-party-of-govt fucking around with the rules.

Where it's gone wrong here is by brainless support from tory MPs.

That's the issue though - you'll always have that. Unless perhaps they alter the rules for this specific instance and need a higher percentage of MPs to vote it through or something? But again, who would do that? JRM and Boris want MPs back to support him, so that's what will happen as long as they're the majority party.

The protests are not down to the government, they’ve been sparked by an external event.

Other than that we can have 6 people round to our gardens or travel to an outdoor spot like a beach, oh and schools are open. That’s it really isn’t it?

If they’re going for a second spike I think they’re doing it rather half heartedly, compared to say Italy where shops, bars, cafes, restaurants, gyms and hairdressers are all open. On 15th June Theatres and cinemas will open, and they’ve now opened their borders to Europeans without any need for quarantine.

but weren't you arguing that they were 4 weeks ahead of us on that path yesterday ..... the vulnerable go back to working in a week  and the BAME community haven't been protected in any way despite the added risks ... and the shielders told they can emerge now when originally they were told that wouldn't happen until end of the month or level 2 happened ?

As much as I despise the current Government and the clowns that run it, it really is a lose/lose situation for them here. Open up too soon and they risk the second wave and more mass death, and keep us locked down too long and the economy, peoples mental and physical health suffer to past breaking point.

I think the ‘happy medium’ easing of the lockdown rules they have introduced so far is not something they can be overly criticised for in my opinion, they clearly have one eye on other countries to see the effects of the easing of lockdown before becoming which way to turn. They are relying on a lot of common sense which allows the gradual return to norm.
It’s everything else surrounding this that is an absolute shambles from them.

For me it's not about the rules themselves but adherence. I think the government due to its general confusion, the Cummings scandal, inconsistent messaging etc has basically ensured most people have given up complying. The rules might say we can meet six in gardens 2m apart but we all know that isn't what people are doing. I'd say public compliance is the issue here, not the supposed restrictions themselves. It's whether or not this level of compliance is an accident or intentional for me.

They’re three weeks ahead, I posted how their daily peak of deaths was three weeks ahead of ours (March 27th vs April 21st) and hence our daily decline in deaths is also three weeks behind. As a result (and as you’d expect) they’re significantly ahead of us with their relaxation of lockdown.

As an example Bars, restaurants, hairdressers and Gyms reopened in Italy on 18th May, bars and restaurants won’t open here until July, so they’re 6 weeks ahead of us on easing some of their measures... hairdressers and Gyms will be some time after that for us so even longer than 6 weeks.

If anyone wants to check where everyone else in Europe is at the moment this article sums it up:

I think its more that lockdown was only ever going to be a temporary measure and that governments were always going to get rid of it, regardless of infection/death rate, at this point. ( or close to it).

Its one of those weird in between fatality rates: not low enough to completely ignore, but not high enough for a super long economic lock down to be feasible.

The main problem weve had is that the govt is incompetent and hasn't put the right measures in place to replace lock down safely with other measures.

My niece works in a hospital in Essex and they were told weeks ago to prepare for a 2nd spike/wave of cases soon. I guess sensible to be prepared, just in case. No one knows for sure what will happen once lockdown measures are eased...steady as she goes etc.

My kid's school contacted me about some time with teachers from 15th June. She is in year 10, and is getting v fed up with the whole home schooling thing. At moment it will be just one day a week, for 3 hours. She stays in same room, different teachers come and see them...just for english, maths and science. Even if they go to toilet they have to be escorted there. Doesn't sound much fun, but is a start I guess. God knows what will happen in September...I'm sure this virus will still be around, and she is in a big school with a lot of students.

Taking the time to read this full report. It seems pretty damn convincing that they might have solved this...

I believe there’s another statement coming in an hour.

That’s as maybe, but is this the thread for it?

Genuine question before i get flamed. What sort of extra protection is being suggested for BAME communities?

Well this is it - none at all. I'm sure the argument from the government would be "all in it together"/economy, when if the report showed the opposite risk levels I suspect we'd be staying locked down longer...

It’s just a follow on from the carehomes ...

Yeah to be honest it's bad enough that story is taking all the main headlines when there's a global pandemic and the situation in the US. It's news sure, but for me way down the priority list. And not in any way relevant to this thread.

It’s a convenient distraction from the big story, next week they’ll discover who killed and Diana and if they’re still talking about Cummings then I think we’ll finally find out what happened to Lord Lucan.
