Bought these from Sports Direct and wore them into work today, seem good so far! Going to go without the wellies and pray for decent weather Despite me sticking up for the welly-wearers on this thread, I do own a lot of walking boots, including a pair a bought from Sports Direct. Their business model is selling £30 boots, claiming they're reduced from £130. I bought some a couple of years back and when I finally put them to the test, discovered they let water in. These were in eVent, which is supposedly as good, or better than, Goretex, however, they'd been sewn together in such a way that there was a breach in the waterproof membrane enclosure around the foot. The best way to test this is to swallow your pride, fill the bath to ankle deep and stand in it. One good thing about Sports Direct is they don't quibble about returns. (In this case, I'd already been using them a bit too much so kept them for riding my bike etc.) If you've got new boots for Glastonbury, would make sense to test them now rather than there. (And yes, wellies can suffer nicks and splits too and I did once test a pair by filling them with water and leave them hanging clamped to my bike maintenance stand for a couple of hours.) Wallace
I just received these today and couldn’t be happier with them. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Brasher-Men-s-Country-Trekker-Walking-Boots/132816520230 Brasher is a great quality boot (they’ve been acquired by berghaus). From looking around you’ll not get a better quality boot at that price (£120 down to £72)
Yokel Again
I'll wear walking boots good weather or bad. Take wellies for if needed, wear them there and home to save packing space. I find with wellies you can head anywhere if it's bad, off path, through gloop, water. With walking boots I've tended to find the need to stay out of the worst of it. stuartbert two hats
Here are some pictures of my boots, in case anyone (I.e. @pauladam) is thinking of getting them: Although they're actually a bit bluer than that in real life. I got them from Decathlon in-store, not sure which model, although I think they're these: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/quest-4d-3-gtx-mens-waterproof-walking-boots-black-id_8408347.html

Has anyone worn their dogs in mud and a little rain? Did they do the job and stay waterproof? I wore docs exclusively in 2016, was fine. I was competing with someone as to whether docs or wellies were better for those conditions, I won getting round the site but couldn't take them off till we got back to the tent so he won that round. I'm just planning on wearing my docs for life this year and hope that they're still in decent enough condition after I can claim a new pair from them.
The_Amazing_Oblong
Tried both wellies and boots. I am a boot man. Wellies make my feet sore. Regular damp daytime wear is a pair of Merrell Moab FST 2 GTX's. https://www.blacks.co.uk/footwear/076632-merrell-men-s-moab-fst-2-gore-tex-shoes-dark-grey.html Wet wear are a pair of Clarks Ripway Peak Goretex boots. https://www.amazon.co.uk/CLARKS-Ripway-Peak-GTX-Boot/dp/B013601TDW Both well worn in and very comfortable. Gnomicide
The zombie thread revival continues. Clearly the answer was walking boots but the time has come to replace my old Scarpa pair as I've nearly worn through the sole. I wear them year round, walking at least a few miles each day. I don't want gortex, prefer leather uppers, a nice cushioned sole helps my old knackered feet. Any recommendations, bargains, stuff to avoid? Looking at £100 to £150 range. Ta! It's not as easy as that. I bought some Scarpa because they were highly recommended but couldn't get on with them at all. Threw them out and bought some Merrell which were perfect and I've bought Merrell ever since and never had a bad pair. So, my advice is - don't buy anything on the say so of somebody else. Go to a decent shop and try several pairs on with the sort of socks you'll be wearing. If the shop has one of those little wooden hills, then so much the better because you can check if they slip at all.

I'm definitely a scarpa above merrell kind of fella though. My current pair are Kilpi and theyre not quite as good as the Scarpas i'd say. Going for a pair of Bestard next up (when my current ones die) just because they look rugged as all hell, and theyve a slightly tittersome name. i'm easily bought

This ^ get a place with someone who knows their stuff and has different areas to walk over. I did end up with Scarpa as they were the best for me. Especially if you’ll be using boots for regular walking - not just festivals 😉 - it’s totally worth getting fitted by somebody who knows what they’re doing. Cotswolds are OK but variable - if you get the Saturday teenager they’re not much use. Better to find a good independent boot specialist if you can. For anyone around Manchester, highly recommend Whalley Warm & Dry - they don’t just sell you the boots but they’ll also adjust them to fit you precisely. I have a pair of Meindls from them and they’re the most comfy boots I’ve ever worn.
Brave Sir Robin
Been happy with my Meindls, but they are starting to wear out. Like the look of the new ones from Finisterre (super eco friendly clothing brand) & Palladium, but wonder how hardwearing they'd really be: https://finisterre.com/collections/footwear (Also available in green) Edited June 10, 2021 by Brave Sir Robin
