poppyh24
Saw them headline at my first festival, summer if 97, twas mad! They had to stop the set because the front row were getting squished... I'm saddened at such a waste .. RIP Keith ?
Paul ™
Devastated, seen them so many times over the years and had the pleasure of working backstage at several mid-90's events and met them a few times to say hello.... sad day indeed x

ian the worm
Introduced the eldest daughter to them around 10 years ago. And my youngest tonight with Jilted. Never saw them live but id always assumed they’d cross my path at a festival some day. Last week I found this in YouTube and actually watched it 3 times before today. It’s their FOH sound tech taking about how to Prodigyize a festival. It’s worth watching if you like bass and echo.
Watergirl
I listened to 'Music from the jilted generation' several times in a row today. My favourite album of theirs. Really brings me back to a place and time in my life. Probably my favourite dance album, alongside 'Dubnobasswithmyheadman'. Lovely tribute on Twitter from James Blunt of all people. Rest in peace Keith.
basicminds
Awful news. I remember being 10 years old and firestarter being played on top of the pops, and just being awoken to dance music instantaneously. My mum watched on while I jumped up and down on the sofa until it finished! It is very sad that he did not feel there was a way out of his pain when he clearly brought so much joy. Rest in Peace. TheSheriff
Such a sad sad day, the energy in those live shows was something else. The Prodigy was the band which turned this indie kid onto dance music back in the day, and for that I will always be grateful. I can honestly say they broadened my horizons. Rest in Peace Keith x
Purple aki squat
Awful news. As a live act they generated more energy than anyone I’ve ever seen and Keith was the driving force of it. Very sad day.

I hope there is some kind of tribute at the farm. God it's so sad. I feel really shaken by it Feel like this has effected more than most celebrity deaths, and I'm not sure why, but it has. Saw Prodigy once back in 2015 in London, almost sold our tickets as the Mrs was pregnant at the time. Glad we didn't, had an amazing time (baby was bouncing around in the womb too apparently!)
Friend Chicken
I don't post much but here in California, stumbling across the news this morning really gutted me. Seeing The Prodigy had risen up my bucket list over the years since buying the Fat of the Land CD in the late 90's but I just never had a chance to see hem. It seemed like this might finally be the year. To hear this news, AND read that they were booked for my first Glasto (it would be the first lineup announcement this year to really excite me)....ugh. Really hope they're able to pull off some kind of tribute performance or something. Could be something special in light of the really sad circumstances. jamesh992
So, so saddened by this news. Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Keith & co at V '10 and Global Gathering '14. Also had tickets to see them in Melbourne on Feb 1st but ended up selling them as I needed the money - big mistake. I can't help but wonder what this will mean for The Prodigy's future live shows or if this is the end? Someone commented this on the Glasto Facebook announcement that got over 200 likes: "Please keep their slot Prodigy related! Maybe Liam could rock out a tribute DJ set or even just play the 97 set on the big screens? The perfect showman - will be massively missed in the music world, such an influence to so man of us! Very sad news x" I guess it's way too early for Liam and Maxim to make this kind of decision whilst they're grieving.
august1
I'd like them to get a DJ to do a Prodigy/rave set in his memory and donate the usual headline fee to a mental health charity. alibear
Far more gutted than I expected to be about this. Whether it was dance to rock or vice versa, they introduced lots of people to lots of different music genres. No mean feat. My husband's devastated - he saw them at an all-night rave at Brixton Academy in 1996 aged just 16. Chemical Brothers supported! He somehow managed to dig out the set on YouTube, too, so I thought I'd share here. It's pretty epic. Enjoy
stuartbert two hats
Every time someone kills themselves, I feel almost a personal responsibility, like if only I'd explained to him that he wasn't really trapped it wouldn't have happened. Complete bollocks of course, even if I did actually know Keith from Prodigy. But it does make me determined not to let anyone from my life slip away because I've been too busy to let them know I care. Do you have anyone you're not so much in touch with these days, but you kinda know they're not doing so well recently? If you do, reach out to them. Do something. Such an utter tragedy. I don't know if there's anything I could have done to stop the friends I did know taking their own lives, but I'm still going to try. RIP Keith. 2
suzie sue
Extremely sad news, as a teenager in 1990 this band became part of me and felt like a freedom and something beyond music. I was lucky to see them twice, once in a pub in Australia with 30 people in 1993, had a pint with the band at the bar, once at Portsmouth guildhall where at the end they were pulling people onto the stage. I managed to get my friends to push me over the crowd onto the stage and got to dance with Keith and Leroy, those two gigs will never be beaten for me. Jay89
They would be my must see this year, as I think last time I saw them was 10 years ago. Genuinely saddened ?
robillustrates
Really glad my first proper festival headliner was the Prodigy at V festival in 2005. They were excellent too. Also the return to form with Invaders must Die and having a crazy crowd at Reading in 2009 was excellent too. Was quietly hoping they would be announced on the Other Stage this year as I would have been right in there. Some things aren't meant to be, very sad news though. rivalschools.price
So frustrating that after seven consecutive no.1 albums, world tour after world tour and numerous festival headline sets, the media are still calling him the ‘man who did Firestarter’
robillustrates
I do agree with those that defend 'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned' even though that was more of a solo record than a Prodigy record. I thought that album was excellent even in a quieter patch for the band as a whole.

Its their biggest hit and the one he was most notably famous for. It happens to a lot of artists. Look what Len on achieved and the media just attach the Imagine singer to the front if his name. Springsteen with Born In The USA, Lou Reed with Perfect Day, it happens to the best of artists.
robillustrates
One of my first musical memories was back in year 5 in school being 9 or 10. To be cool you had to be a fan of and know all about Manchester United and the Prodigy. Then you were set.

We were sat in that traffic jam when we spotted Leeroy & Maxim going past. Didn’t see the others. We made it in just in time to see them but the next night in the dance tent was even better - absolutely heaving, the noise was deafening, people climbing the speaker stacks, sweat dripping from the ceiling, complete anarchy.... That was part of a mad 12 months where I saw them 6 or 7 times, including Knebworth and ending up headlining my first Glasto. We were fairly near the front that eve, don’t think I anticipated the size of that crowd! This news hit me like a hammer this morning. Right in the middle of a mad day at work - had to stop for a few moments to let it sink in. It took me back 20 or so years when music, the Prodigy in particular, was my life. He was a key part of that time, a ringleader for all us kids who sought escapism through music, sprinkled with a little bit of mayhem, no wonder we flocked to seem them wherever they played. The Prodigy shows of the 90s were like nothing I had ever seen. RIP Keith, you meant a lot to so many
Tiesto FTW
I'd love The Chems to replace their slot, as a perfect tribute and only band who could do The Prodigy justice. they are down Cornwall on the Friday after all. So sad and would have been my band of the festival to see. Edited March 5, 2019 by Tiesto FTW
moz4pm
Really enjoyed reading everyone's prodigy memories. It really shows how important music is in people's lives and how many amazing memories for millions of people Prodigy created.
