Cos they’ve had a no. 1 album in both US and Canada, and sold out big arenas like MSG. The Lumineers can’t be that much bigger than that. Looking it up, they played the Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Calgary last tour. I know (from googling ‘tragically hip calgary’ ) that there’s a bigger venue there but it seems larger than a small venue. Tash Sultana just sold out the grey eagle... not trying to make that a statement either way, but its for comparison. I just looked up this tour, and they also only played 4 dates in Canada... Calgary Edmonton Winnipeg and Toronto. I couldn't find any details about whether the Calgary date sold out... The lumineers had 14 Canadian dates on the Cleo tour.. I know the edmonton arena date sold out. It's all opinions, but I know that everyone I know.. KNOWS who the lumineers are here. Even my Mum. Whereas the only person in my circles who know the 1975 is my brother. That's my gauge, no fact or science behind it.

Had no idea The Lumineers would be so big over there, nor that The 1975 would be that little known despite topping the charts. I think, after next summer, they're likely to be a headliner in most countries; this album seems like it's the biggest album of the year (if only because it's been fairly quiet) and the next one should follow suit, so they'll be well on their way to becoming a household name in places they are currently not. Its honestly weird for me how different the musical landscapes are in Canada vs the UK. Someone I'm super into here (ex: half moon run) may get a great spot at a Canadian fest but not prestige at glasto. I think generally Canada must be a 1/99th of a beat out of sync with the rest of the world.
MetaKate
Ok also I just had my staff xmas party (so early, I had no say) but I'm going to shamelessly admit that I deeply love the lumineers. Deeply.

Deeply. Hey Ho was the first dance song at our wedding, although that was more of a compromise - I wanted Something Changed by Pulp, Mrs Jass wanted something awful. If we had gotten into the National by then it would have been Pink Rabbits.

Gnomicide
I enjoyed the first Lumineers album and the set in Glastonbury was good, way too long a gap to the next album though and I didn't think it was up to scratch. It'll be interesting to see what the next album is like, don't know if Neyla leaving will make a lot of difference.
Gucci Piggy
Still can't believe The Lumineers played above Editors at R&L 2013.

A wide appeal and would love to see them back.

There was a ton of drama and it almost didn't happen at all... but still, it just felt like a party. Nothing Christmas about it! 7 hours ago, Avalon_Fields said: No bad thing! Stay that way. I'd say Canada has a great pool of talent when it comes to the indie rock type genre... but they don't seem to do as well outside of Canada for whatever reason. Wintersleep (the miasmal smoke and the yellow bellied freaks is insane live) , Metric, Local Natives, there's more but I'm too hungover to think. It goes both ways though... I saw the struts at a festival here... not on the main stage at about 2pm in the afternoon... a spot usually for someone relatively unknown 7 hours ago, Gnomicide said: Don't know if Neyla leaving will make a lot of difference. HeyPorter
Met two of the Backstreet Boys in my local last night, didn’t even think to ask if they would be at G as it’s absolutely preposterous.

Fun fact:Editors are still guge in Belgium for some reason and headline huge festivals there. (I actually used to like/do like Editors, but I still think it's somewhat unsavoury.)
