If you are heading to see the Streets on Saturday, the stage times have been moved forward to accommodate the England match....

Having been at a gig while England played a world cup game - trust me you dont want it -  it will ruin the gig for you like football or not

Saw The Breeders start during the closing moments of England losing the World Cup 2018 semi final. They were showing it in the second venue downstairs, then suddenly everyone appeared 2 songs in wanting a drink. Gig took a bit to get going, but it got there in the end. Didn't compare to the disruption of the weddings I've been to where group games were shown (one during the speeches!). Luckily the gig I'm going to saturday (Militarie Gun) had the foresight months ago to have the curfew be 8pm.

Channel One session in camden timing has been changed too for the football.

on a sort of connected note - this talk has reminded me of standing in a field wearing a wetsuit made out of bin-bags watching the Lighting Seeds in '98! 🙂

I was at Glasto watching Madness when the England v Argentina match was being played in 1986, and at Wembley watching the Stones for the 1990 WC semi against West Germany. The crowd was very restless for the latter one

Yeah I've seen various examples this summer of how its been affected. Harry Styles showed the DR Congo match before Shania last week and events on Sunday like Wolf Alice at Finsbury would have been affected if it was moved earlier as proposed

At Latitude last year it clashed with the women's Euros final so they set up a big screen but even then people were watching on their phones whilst Elbow were on. Its just a matter of fact big international events will always be in the back of peoples minds even during gigs

Honestly -  it was shite situation -   Mark Mr E Everette aka EELS singing the song climbing to the moon -  a man who has had a tragic life for those who know his story - singing a song about his Sister who he would loose to Suicide.....   with a crowd erupting halfway though on the news Eric DIer had smashed in the winning penalty against Columbia -

He did not appreciate it -   "guess your f**king football match has finished now" i recall his words were.

I will say the rest of the gig was very high spirits.

Ooh I'm going to the Birmingham show and I liked Heartworms when she opened for St Vincent. I'll try to get there in good time.

Depends where you go. I saw Foo Fighters in Cardiff at the same time as a match at the last Euros and there was f**k all mention of it.

But then I was in Wales so they were probably doing their best to ignore it. And given it was a group stage dead rubber that ended goalless, it was easy to ignore.

Tbf a week before that I saw Kings of Leon in Leeds after an England game had finished and even though there were England shirts everywhere, it wasn't really a domineering thing. Game was over as a 1-1 draw and I think people were fine to move on.

Being at the killers when we made the final and they showed the last few minutes then jumped into mr brightside was pretty decent as a memory, so mileage might vary.

That one did look like the stars aligning for it to be done right tbf. The atmosphere looked really great. So much so that I genuinely thought at my show the night after, it felt like we weren't quite at the same vibe.

I’ve no memory at all of either an England game or Madness at Glastonbury 86. Then again there was a lot of quality LSD on site that year

I’ve been sceptical about the rumours he’s doing Christmas arena shows, given he did exactly that in 2024. I think it more likely he’ll do outdoor shows next summer (inevitably means his Christmas arena dates drop imminently)

Yeah probably the worst thing to happen was that French article a few months ago saying 'he was planning a European tour for later in the year'.

It gave both hope and excitement esp with TBODL doing so well but over time whispers start of cancellations of shows in South America and Asia thus putting doubt in the Euro/UK shows

As you siad Macca doing those 2024 Arena shows might make it a bit 'samey' (really should of went to one of those myself instead of picking Ally Pally for the Darts 😄

I remain a little hopeful about this year but it's getting a bit late and the O2 London seems particularly busy in December

I'd take an compromise and a summer 2027 tour with wither an Irish date or UK shows. Loved Hyde Park for Garth Brooks and would be an easy payday for Sir Paul

Hoping they will do something similar for Iron Maiden at Knebworth.

So do I. At worst the curfew is 10:30pm so with any luck should be able to get to a pub in Stevenage for the start of the second half, and still get the last train back to London. I presume under the licensing/curfew they can't put it on the screens at Knebworth.

It's a long old trek back to Stevenage from Knebworth Park, and Stevenage New Town is not exactly blessed with a lot of pubs!
