Do the festival put TBC or special guest on the first drop poster when the act (whoever it may be) hasn't yet signed on the dotted line or are they already in the bag and being kept back for other reasons?

Both.

We’ve reached that time of year where impatience starts to creep in. Without wishing to generalise it’s always the younger, less experienced posters who start. Those of us who’ve done this a few times know this always how it is.

Still another month I reckon.

Isn’t the payment window 1-7 April (or very close to those dates).

It would be unusual to be just after, or in and around a resale date wouldn’t it?, so would be at the end of April onwards (welp, but can’t see that), and given the fallow year, the structure would have been in place more than other years for an earlier drop, like 2013, you would assume.

I can see them wanting to do it before the week of Brexit media washout...

18-21 March - gives enough time for media attention and reminding people to get the £200-odd together to pay off.

But then again, my ‘logic’ can mean fk all in the grand scheme of things now.

Gaga is coming.

I’ve managed to get tickets to 3 out of last 4 festivals and IIRC every time a poster has been out in some form or another prior to close of payment deadline which points to something fairly soon.

Yep. So the Stones and Mumford were basically announced at the same time

All that had been announced before that point were Rokia Traore, Nas, Disclosure, Hot Natured, David Rodigan, SubFocus, Aluna George, Eats Everything, Rudimental and The Congos. So we got all 3 headliners and loads of others, more than has been on recent posters, all at the same time.

Interesting. I think from memory AM were ‘confirmed’ on here prior so it wasn’t a shock - and people were by this point expecting the Stones (if slightly nervous it wouldn’t ever happen) but people were still unsure about Mumford until that evening

Sounds right but officially it all came out on the 27th March at 7pm. I had thought it was Radio 1, not Absolute as someone said further up, poster dropped at the same time. I remember sitting on my bed, laptop on, radio on, texting mates and watching eFests explode.

Was definitely on Radio 1

The 2013 headliners thread only got to 459 pages before the headliners were announced.

Bloody amateurs.

What was the reaction like to The Stones being confirmed?

The confirmation came in at page 108 of the dedicated Stones thread.

The usual mix. A lot of folk chuffed, a lot of folk going "Is it just me that isn't interested / the Pyramid's for squares anyway".

I think the reaction was a lot more positive than usual to be fair. Nobody really could say the booking wasn’t justified. The negative comments were more questions surrounding whether they were still any good live and would they live up to the hype (and it turned out, they could)

Also a lot folk who'd seen them in the A Bigger Bang era and thought at that point the game was up.

A lot of folk who saw vids of the same tour from a few months before and thought at that point the game was up.

    • Personally if it was me now, I would be grabbing a green camping ticket with the knowledge closer when I've refreshed that I can still choose general if I want to....you can't do the opposite!    I would say if you are happy to watch your headliners and big bands further back to be able to see who you actually plan to later then yes it is fine. Its a much difference experience to any other festival especially food wise and camping surrounds.    Once you're in the arena as well you're not going back unless you've got a gap. If I go again I'll be going with the option of not trying to push the front and enjoying further back as you actually put too much pressure on it than the time take away can forget to enjoy other acts.
    • No complaints about the sound. We were like 2nd set of steps facing stage right in like the middle row.
    • On the whole then, yay or nay...I've had a look on festivals united and there's people who seem converted by Rock Im Park, I can imagine it might be different if it was a washout as RaR is tarmac.   The hotel side would be more to convince the non campers if it's an option. On my first visit to rock am ring we were shuttled into the area where you could stick the car next to the tent which was fantastic as it meant zero lugging of camping gear.
    • An interesting thing this. Having seem them several times (some of their gigs veer into back catalogue niche territoty), I partly agree they arent Pyramid material (theough modern defeinition of 'bangers' although I could see them headlinging the Other stage) I can't think of another festival in the world that they couldn't headline - Reading, IoW, BST, Rock Wercheter, Roskilde, etc etc.
