There was also a rumour before they were announced to headline Reading and Leeds that they were in fact headlining the NME Stage and Green Day (or someone else, not sure) were headlining the main stage.

That was never gonna happen. 2012 was another year when they were headlining every festival in Europe.

Good relationship with the Eavii and desperation to finally play the festival.

I'm not sure who that's a reply to?  It appeared to be about the Cure, but they've played multiple times before hence my confusion?

I believe he is making fun of this ludicrous suggestion that they'd play a lower than normal slot as The Cure have played loads and Michael has slagged them off in the past.

Still pretty sure that whole Metallica being originally booked to headline the other stage thing was bollocks.

I can't be sure, but based on the sources I heard it from I'm pretty sure they were.

Unless Prince was being lined-up to do the Other Stage that year...? :P

The festival may have considered it, but I doubt Metallica would have. Surely it would have been far more likely that Arcade Fire or Kasabian dropped down a slot to accomodate Prince?

from what I heard about that year, they'd lost another act they'd planned for (I'm not sure who), because Prince was originally planned for the Sunday but then got moved to Saturday - so Kasabian had been told a long time before they were headlining the Pyramid, while Metallica were still set for the Other Stage.

All of the info I had was telling me they were planned to play on the Other Stage, against Prince, and that Metallica were willing to do it.

I don't think it's beyond reach to think Metallica would have played the Other. They're huge, but Glastonbury is clearly not their target audience so they would probably have seen it as something a bit different and a chance to reach a different audience. Makes sense from their POV.

I'll believe The Cure playing that slot when I see it though.

I recall Q Magazine ran with Arcade Fire, Kasabian, hopefully Prince and then Metallica playing the Other Stage in December 2013. I don't know where Neil's rumours were at at that point. For Metallica it made some sense really because you had Lars Ulrich saying every year that he wanted Michael Eavis to phone him, so it seems like they should've been way more willing to drop down a stage to do that as opposed to the other two.

I'd forgotten about that, it was tucked away in just a few lines, nothing big made of it.

As it was in Q Mag you can be pretty sure that info came directly from the Farm.

not as good as the info in Q at the time I saw Q, now i'm reminded.

Tho that was the year I told everyone to put money on Kasabian, and i'm pretty sure I'd said that before that info was in Q - because I heard firstly that Kasabian had been signed to play before Prince if they could get him and to headline if they couldn't, and that they'd already been told (at the time I said to bet) that they'd be headlining as Prince had been moved to Saturday.

(someone somewhere had a bit of a bit mouth about all that :P ; I'm very confident that what I heard about Kasabian was on the money, so much so I put money on it and told you lot to too!).

Not to p*ss on the Gaga hype but didn't Emily say relatively recently that all of the headliners are blokes? I seem to remember her using that term specifically.

I thought she said she'd signed on 'a couple of blokes' to headline and this was prior to Stormzy's announcement, suggesting him plus Macca. Unless she's come out with something else since then that tends to support the potential of Gaga instead of The Cure, rather than go against it.

As someone still firmly clutching their Gaga straws, today is a key day. The residency starts tonight and during the summer there have been whispers that she'd drop her 6th album to coincide with the start of this residency.

If an album is announced then I'll be shoving my metaphorical chips on a 'European tour and Glasto appearance in June-July-August' bet, probably to be announced in Jan/Feb 2019 once the early (and almost certainly) positive reviews from the residency come in.

No album and then i think the slim hopes become slimmer. At best I think it's a one off Glasto appearance as she 'beings her Enigma Vegas show to the Pyramid Stage'.

    • If Werchter pulled in Blink and Foos plus like Sabrina if she's touring and got System if they are I'd be more inclined to try it vs RIP if they got Blink, Foos and System. I don't at the moment, maybe reflection will be different, think that RIP is greatly setup for overseas travelling over. It feels more like currently day festival days with a camping over separate rather than hotel as its included.
    • I think many US people are fed up with the US and have definitely discovered how amazing it is to come to Barcelona for a better experience and way cheaper than back home.   Surely PS doesnt set up a huge commercial festival only to not put in place a system where QR codes can’t be re-used?
    • They'll get Foo Fighters as well.
    • That as a surprise along with The Cure is the best part of the lineup so far.   Probably means though she's about next year again.
    • I also dont think Deftones will tour next year.   But I think RIP will have both Foos and Blink and if SOAD fo festivals that will be your 3.
