Dave will want to put on a show. He's the ultimate show man. They've waited 20 years to headline Glastonbury and he'll want to do it justice. No doubts about that.

If he feels he won't be able to give it his all, then I think they'll ask to play next year instead. This will be their only shot at headlining so makes sense for them to be able to give it a proper go.

As mentioned, I'm sure Blur would step in (if they're free). Or bump up Florence. We won't be left with another Gorillaz situation at least thankfully!

Not quite true, if we are to understand they have always chosen the money over Glasto, just not this time. They haven't only just been asked or anything, it's more they've only just decided.off the back of Wasting Light would be better as SH is, well nothing really. Edited by thewayiam

I can't believe how many orthopaedic surgeons have posted in this thread.

Bloody hell, guys, get a grip!

Transverse fibula fracture. Relatively little load bearing through it (tibia does most). Yes it'll hurt like buggery for a few days, but in a well applied, light cast he'll be 'comfortable' and reasonably mobile in a week. Issue will be if they want to realign and nail it. There is some displacement but the periosteum (outer bone membrane) is still intact, so they might leave it. Tibia would have meant an op for certain. Bottom line is, he'd probably be 'fine' to do the gig sitting/leaning in two weeks. The logistics are not that hard. The question will be if he WANTS to. Would he be happy for a FF Pyramid slot having that caveat? Possibly yes, as it's a hell of a demonstration of commitment and would earn him huge kudos...ARE YOU LISTENING DALTREY? TOWNSHEND?!!!

Ben

Ah. It's about time you did some bloody work, Ben! ;)

Thanks for this though. Cheers.

When I broke both my fib and tib and dislocated my ankle at around 7pm, I didn't feel any pain until around 11pm when I was in a bed in hospital and wanted to sleep. It's incredible what adrenaline does.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Grohl. I can say almost certainly that he'll need surgery, the bone is disjointed. It isn't the weight bearing bone, so isn't as bad as a tibia break. However, it can take days for the swelling to go down enough for surgery to proceed...

I had the exact same injury and know he will struggle. I think last night was just hus adrenaline and today he will be really feeling it.

I just can't see them playing

They may play but there's absolutely no chance he'll be doing anything other than sitting on his backside for two and a half hours.

He was originally a drummer? They could just tell the drummer to take a holiday, bring in a session guitarist, and Dave could sit at the kit banging away and using up more energy, better than sitting in a chair playing a guitar

If he hasn't gone private with BUPA he deserves everything he gets.

I predict the whole tour will be called off, Wembley, Glasto, the whole lot, Dave doesn't do half hearted performances, i would be surprised if there is not an announcement to that effect this weekend

I can't envisage any problems with that whatsoever. He could work the bass drum via a pulley system attached to his neck.

You would think Glastonbury will need to know today

I'm pretty sure he'll be getting an expensive assessment done today to establish just how bad it is, what he can do and when. From that, they'll make a decision and announce it immediately. There's no point delaying things with the number of gigs they've got scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

If they do cancel, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Glastonbury held off on any announcement about replacements until the festival begins. It would be the perfect opportunity for them to hold back an announcement until people arrive on site, something they've wanted to do for ages.

No chance, the masses will go crackers!!

I cannot see any other outcome than a Florence bump if they do cancel.

Hmm.. not sure about that. It could only work with a like for like replacement. It's one thing to do that when you haven't announced anything, but if you promise one type of act, but get another, some people will be very pissed off.

If someone like Swift was announced at the gate, I imagine there would be some people really angry.

That's true. Some people are going to be angry no matter who's announced, although replacing a rock act with a pop one would understandably infuriate a significant minority. Giving Flo her moment would be the safest and arguably fairest option, but doing that still leaves a gap for a new sub, so I think they'd probably make a call to friends of the festival (please not Coldplay). Realistically, that could be Blur or even Radiohead. My dream replacement would be Prince, and some of the factors that we speculate stop him from signing up would no longer be obstacles, so it could..... no. I need to stop torturing myself like that.
