I can't believe how many orthopaedic surgeons have posted in this thread.

Bloody hell, guys, get a grip!

Transverse fibula fracture. Relatively little load bearing through it (tibia does most). Yes it'll hurt like buggery for a few days, but in a well applied, light cast he'll be 'comfortable' and reasonably mobile in a week. Issue will be if they want to realign and nail it. There is some displacement but the periosteum (outer bone membrane) is still intact, so they might leave it. Tibia would have meant an op for certain. Bottom line is, he'd probably be 'fine' to do the gig sitting/leaning in two weeks. The logistics are not that hard. The question will be if he WANTS to. Would he be happy for a FF Pyramid slot having that caveat? Possibly yes, as it's a hell of a demonstration of commitment and would earn him huge kudos...ARE YOU LISTENING DALTREY? TOWNSHEND?!!!

Ben

Listen to the doctor, he speaketh sense.

My main concern was whether he's done extra damage by trying to play on last night. I'm 50/50 on whether they will play and I reckon it's a tough decision to make. I think if it goes ahead there will be a lot of people (myself included) who will go and have a great time and really get behind the band as a thank you for going ahead. In some ways with the publicity and emotions around it, even if Dave's sat down it could be an absolutely legendary occasion.

However, there's no way it's going to be a 100% Dave show and they may decide that they would rather cancel and come back next year. It would be hit and miss whether they would get another chance if they played this year - we do get some returning headliners but it's pretty rare.

If they don't play I have no problem with Flo headlining - I'm no fan and wouldn't be there but I disagree with anyone who says she's not big enough. Emily has already said that Flo could headline and it seems a perfect opportunity to bump her up. Whether they can get move the whole line-up and just start a couple of hours later or whether they can back-fill with an addition of two earlier in the day I don't know. I'm sure there are plenty of bands who would take a Pyramid slot given a last minute chance.

BTW, here's the report from my mate who was there:

"Well, that was epic. One of the most genuinely exhilarating, dramatic and moving concerts I have ever been to.

Foo Fighters opened with Everlong. Song 2, Monkey Wrench, of which the managed to perform about the first 16 bars at which point Dave Grohl pitched himself off the stage about 10 feet into the pit below. Rest of the band carries on playing, hoping, assuming that everything is ok but after 2 minutes it became clear he was not. They stopped. Taylor Hawkins could clearly be seen mouthing the words "Fuck. Is he dead?" On the jumbo screens. A minute or so of silence was followed by a very animated Dave Grohl announcing "I've just broken my fucking leg", the jumbo screens come back on to show DG being attended by paramedics, him with wireless mic in hand. They cart him away.

Cut back to the stage where the band decide they're going to play a few party numbers while they work out what's happening next so off they go with Rod Stewart's Stay With Me and Tie Your Mother Down (among others) before DG is carried back on stage, plonked on a chair, leg all bandaged and is handed a guitar. The proper set resumes with a paramedic holding Dave's leg in position.

He continues throughout until they cart him off again in order to slap an emergency cast on his leg and then he's back, giving it the full beans right to the very end of the night.

Absolutely astonishing and utterly remarkable. Most other musicians I know would have bolted to the nearest private clinic in a limo. Not Dave.

As I said earlier - total fucking legend."

OK, just let me dream over my breakfast. They cancel, Taylor Swift or Prince come in as emergency replacement. Never going to happen, but like I say, give me 20 minutes of optimisim while I'm having my poached eggs. The dull prosaic reality of it can come back in a little while.

Prince wpuld want a massive fee, but he always wants 2 and half hours minimum.. the slot is there.

I know, I know, however, like I say, I'm a part time c**t, but a full time dreamer.

That's odd, cos I am the other way around.

A prince, SFA, Hot Chip clash would be a real pisser. I'd have to go to Prince.

It won't happen though

What a guy, based on what I have read and seen you really have to admire the way he finished the gig with such a nasty break. I qm firmly in the I love the Foos camp and would be very disappointed to see then cancel not only Glastonbury, but also Wembley to! I guess with both being a week and two weeks away it is possible that they do play and its just a different show. I am certain Grohl wont want to cancel anything and will find a way of playing. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy to cancel shows because of a leg injury.

If they do cancel, we would get Flo bumped up. I'm not a fan but she can headline, has enough hits to and festivals need new headliners coming through.

They sounded fucking shit tho. Don't know what was up with Graham but he sounded awful

They were worried as Liam was prowling like the old days and threatened to bash blur up or a real 90's feel.

Not gonna happen, forget it

Their show is on live tv, will be seen across the UK and across the globe by an audience of tens of millions, Grohl is a pro and a perfectionist no way will he do a half hearted show infront of millions on tv, you can't just stick him in a chair and expect a 100% standard show even if vocally he can pull it off

No, but he can do something pretty unique. I can't see it happening either, but...

I read this on his profile

"In the midst of the initial sessions for Foo Fighters' second album, tension emerged between Grohl and Goldsmith. According to Goldsmith, "Dave had me do 96 takes of one song, and I had to do thirteen hours' worth of takes on another one. ... It just seemed that everything I did was not good enough for him"

That shows to me that something has to be 100% perfect for Dave, biggest perfectionist out there, he won't accept the 70-80% he could realistically pull off

He could do it sitting down and still be 10 times more interesting than Florence. The only saving grace for me as that there's a decent back up option in place - Hot Chip. Maybe they should be bumped to the main stage!!

That was in 1995- they had a good old run after that!

Including 2 headline sets on the Pyramid stage, it should be mentioned.

As for Dave Grohl's break? He'll probably have some sort of mega expensive treatment involving stem cells harvested from stolen cuban infants and be back on his feet by the time he's done at the Bildeberg group meeting.

It's alright gang, I've cracked it

So, like in Cricket, if you're injured, you have a runner who does the physical bit for you in between the wickets, so you can still play. Dave Grohl nominates Russycarps to be his de facto frontman. Grohl sits on his chair playing the tunes, while Russy legs it all over the stage as his replacement, grinning wildly, hyping up the crowd for the Foos

    • There is possibly a weak link in the ticket buying system, no matter how clever the technical controls get. I just spent 20 minutes this morning hammering the ‘Buy Tickets’ button while the web page kept telling me there weren’t enough tickets remaining to meet my request. Eventually it changed its mind and let me buy two tickets. Most likely because of failed payments in the queue ahead of me. So - just like it did in the good old F5 days - pig-headed blind persistence can sometimes pay off.   BTW, the tickets were for the Whispering Bob Harris evening in the Albert Hall on 2nd December.
    • All I'm asking for is Rancid
    • MGK would probably end my interest in this festival completely.
    • The basement, deafheaven, Mannequin pussy clash is v annoying. Also not sure why pinkpantheress is in the tent, surely going to be ramos.
    • It's just this:   Search up which orgs are currently in Tufton St, funded by Koch Brothers, Robert Mercer, and Matthew Elliot.   It's moved on from "Vote Leave" and "Leave Means Leave" into the lobbyists against net zero. It's the same funding from the same people in the same place lobbying our media and politicians.
