I've set up the webcam as an always upto date PC screensaver, bit clunky and I'm sure theres probably better ways of doing it - works for me though so though I'd post it in case its useful to anyone.

The screensaver I use is WPanorama from http://www.wpanorama.com/ and is freeware.  Its very good and pans the whole webcam image very smoothly.  Only real issue is that it works off a locally stored file rather than directly from the internet.

So seperately I download the "https://live-image.panomax.com/cams/879/recent_full.jpg" file and then the screensaver uses that.

I do it automatically via a cron job on my QNAP Nas (instructions from https://wiki.qnap.com/wiki/Add_items_to_crontab ).

6-59/5 * * * * wget -q https://live-image.panomax.com/cams/879/recent_full.jpg -O /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/Photos/Glastonbury/recent_full.jpg --no-check-certificate

Above works perfectly, the webcam seems to update every 5 mins with a small delay, so I download at 6 mins past the hours then 11/16 etc, the above cron job achieves that

On windows you could also use something like "https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/seqdownload.html" which is a small app that auto downloads a file multiple times.

Its nice that everytime my screensaver kicks in it displays the latest webcam image and pans the image.

Ideally I'd have a screensaver that would download from the url every time it activates and theres probably one out there but I couldn't find one.

Looks like a Merlin, which is quite appropriate for the area.

Merlin doing routine training from Yeovilton. Get lots of the egotistical gits flying over the site and village.
