When Michael Eavis said that 'He is definitely British but his band is not' about a headliner. Surely the only logical fit is Elton John to close the festival? Would be a popular choice and most of his band members are American!

To all of you blaming the rain for U2's piss poor performance/reception I say bollocks. Set list, arrogance, lack of interaction and generally just looking and sounding old and tired did it for them.

There have been loads of bands that have nailed it at Glastonbury in the pouring rain. Including the Foo Fighters who played to only about 2000 people in 1998, early doors and in a full on biblical storm. Crowd loved it.

Unfortunately U2s setlist wasn't catered for rain at all. Great start, but once One was played the sound of Edges soft guitar was replaced by the sound of rain splattering on peoples tits.

Just as it was picking up again the same thing happened with I Still Havent Found. Picked up again and then they played Bad. A tune that really would have been great in Stones weather.

By the time With Or Without you came around in the encore all the soaked masses could hear was rain. And that wasn't helped by the two unknown tunes they closed with granted.

The place is still kicking off here but enthusiasm is waning with each increased inch of rain.

I have no idea what to expect anymore.

This year we've gone from sheer excitement of ACDC and Foos to depression with Swift, Coldplay and Flo, so I can't gauge anything at all anymore.

I hope it's Macca, but Elton John rumour just won't go away. So i'd expect it to be him.

I doubt Michael Eavis has taken a close look (or even cares) about the nationalities of members of Elton John's backing band. He's a solo artist who hires a band that chops and changes. Which is substantially different to Mick Fleetwood, a Brit, who is the leading and founding member of a band whose current line-up is very much associated with west coast America (yes, I know, the McVies are both British). So I think it's clutching at straws to associate ME's comment with Elton John.

Which is not to say that Fleetwood Mac is playing, that Elton John is not playing or that we should pay undue attention to comments made some time ago by Michael Eavis.

I wasn't at the u2 performance, no idea where I was, as it goes, but watched it back on Iplayer. Not a band alive who could triumph in those conditions as headliner.

even if that was true, the lawyers for Sonisphere certainly would have given two fucks.

no-one here knows what the exclusivity clause in the contract for Metallica or anyone else consisted off, so speculating on whether it was true or not, or whether it was broken is a waste of time.

Can someone inform me as to why exactly Swift is rumored? I know she has been for a while, and see that she is in London on the Saturday, but looking at her tour dates I am not seeing any instances of her playing 3 nights in a row, which would be required to do the London > Glastonbury > Dublin run.

Neil (or Scott) was told from one of their sources that she would be headlining the Sunday night. not 100% to be believed, and something might've changed since then, but it's probably more than they've had on any other acts so worth keeping as a rumour
