Fleetwood Mac have their fair share of dross but enough really solid tunes to fill out a set I think.

Plus they crossed a few genres with huge success over their career.

I wouldn't be going overboard with praise, but I can't see much comparison between them and Florence at this current stage in her career

All this nonsense about the quantity of 'tunes' that an act has is daft and I struggle to believe there are people that have been attending the festival for years that haven't worked out that acts are billed on popularity rather than quality.

Florence and the Machine have had substantial album sales, ticket sales and high festival slots at all the major fests and are among the first predictions on this so to think there's a conspiracy to push a chancer up to a headline slot then you must be having a laugh.

yep, there's defo a bit of a Flo push going on at the moment, but so few newer acts make it to even her level of a year or three back, so when there's such an obvious climber with new material they're likely to get behind it just on the basis of it being something big to say.

But in my experience, Emily doesn't get drawn into saying big paragraphs about her 'secret' acts, so either she was a bit pissed last night (far from impossible, I guess) and said more than she meant to or there was less there that she wanted to hide than some are thinking.

Not really. Almost everyone said fair enough when mumfords headlined (obviously there were the usual "they are shit" comments).

Flo isnt where they were.

I haven't suggested anything like a conspiracy.

I haven't really taken issue with Florence as a headliner... I just asked if she has ever produced a performance anywhere that suggests she is really deserving of it.

Popularity-wise she is probably at that level.

Quality-wise, not for me, but as you say that doesn't matter.

well for radio, i've been to the canteen in work 4 times today, and heard it playing 3 of those times.

I remember last year there being a lot of speculation about Elbow headlining- I'm not sure whether it was media speculation or just people on here... And that didn't happen. I really hope Flo subs, as I do not think she is anywhere near the required level at the moment to headline Glastonbury.

The thing about Emily's comments about Florence is that she says she "doesn't know what she's doing in summer". That is almost certainly untrue. If she's lying there then not much else she said in the interview can really be believed. It's just standard platitudes.

does Glastonbury really give leg ups to smaller acts that frequently? If you look back over past headliners I think it's a bit of a myth.
