Lawn.... I should change my name to Swift-Gif. I actually have to double take if Lawn doesn't post a swift gif or video. They initally annoyed, now - I miss them when they are not there.

I still don't get the 'big' thing.

Adele is seemingly big enough after 2 albums.

FatM are not after 3 albums.

FatM sales are lower than Adele but many of Adele sales were to mothers on mothers day and older folks who don't do festivals.

I see no difference myself.

well no, Adele is not "big enough", she's one of the biggest current acts on the planet, with about 25 million sales of her last album.

FaTM are pretty big, as shown by the fact that they're headlining European festivals and subbing at Coachella, and they're even more popular in the UK.

anyone who doesn't think FATM are a big act is either oblivious to what's actually happening, or is letting their own personal tastes get in the way of the facts.

I said ages ago when Florence was talked about she should sub other festivals and headline Reading and Leeds, T, Isle of Wight and/or V this year, then headline Glastonbury next year when she is 100% big enough, and could benefit from a re-interest in all her albums. Obviously if she is offered it now she should take it, but if they offer her sub she should have booked headline slots elsewhere and tell Glastonbury to wait a year.

Glastonbury don't tend to book acts at the end of their touring cycle though, do they? They generally seem to get acts just as they release an album and then they move on to R&L, IOW etc or stadium shows the following year. Not saying this is always the case, but does seem to happen fairly often.

seems like that doesnt it, i always though telbow would get headline slot if their latest album had another 'one day like this' or something, same with florence if the new single was really big(which i'd be amazed if it was as its pretty bog standard) then i think she may have had a chance of headlining

Yeh but I mean they didnt headline in 2010 (or whenever it was they first subbed) when they were at their peak of popularity because of that damn song. I dont think florence has anything to compare with that.

And people didn't think her big enough after that first album, and they didn't think her big enough after the 2nd album. We've yet to see if the 3rd album sells hugely like the first or is mediocre like the 2nd.

Her first album sold 3 million. Her second album sold 2 million. That says it all.

This is the bit that causes me to raise an eyebrow. Noone can predict whether any album will sell big or be a turkey. The simple act of taking a couple years out doesn't guarantee her bonzo box office.

well that's obviously a punt the festival is going to have to / are willing to take. the new album will sell very well i think. whether it'll be a disappointment like the second or have the huge singles like the first remains to be seen (that new song doesn't sound like a big hitter to me, but may do well purely because it's the first new Flo song in a long time). if she returns as a sub now, it's her management putting the nail in the coffin for her headlining for another three or four years. i don't see why they'd do that when they can easily be demanding headline spots now

just checked mumford & sons record sales. Their second album sold around about the same as their first. Definitely no million sales drop there.

If we are talking about where single releases get in the charts vs headline slots then Arcade Fire should not have headlined as their single sale are not the best.

No idea how many albums they sell in the UK so cannot comment on that

I guess the Beatles were less popular in 1969 than 1968 because Abbey Road sold a bit less than the White Album...better write them off, they've obviously been declining in popularity ever since.

It's almost like there's more to it than that, isn't it?
