Do you have a good argument to what their level is given how much of a pull they still are live?

Album sales in decline, no recognisable single for 10 years, not the right fit for Glastonbury that high up. T and V have a different demographic and therefore they suit a sub slot there, plus of course they are smaller festivals. No one cares about them anymore outside their diminishing fanbase

Manics are far bigger amongst the regular glastonbury crowd in my opinion and certainly far more respected

I think they're pretty well suited to V and T as they're usually on the same card as a fair few acts that'd appeal to similar crowds, so just as a bit of an incentive to buy tickets. I couldn't see them being booked for Glastonbury but I'd imagine they would then they'd be around where they'd play on a T or V lineup.

As I always say, I cannot know with certainty that what I believe is right is actually right until it's announced. So yes, Coldplay could be wrong.

At this moment I'm starting to think that it is wrong, tho I always have these sorts of doubts over just about any act I've said is headlining, and (as far as I can remember) I've never yet been wrong with a headliner for a major fest. To put those fears down I rethink what I've been told and how likely it is to be right, and that does the job as long as I've not been a numpty and believed what i shouldn't.

In this case i've believed something I shouldn't have difficulty trusting.

But it still might be wrong.

Emily in that video..

"There are another few rumours that are kind of in heavy circulation..... Somewhere on that list there are people that maybe (laughs/smiles) appearing."

Gotta be talking about Coldplay.

Nope. Their last album was their most successful for some time.

no recognisable single for 10 years

Which is why Nick Cave gets to sub headline obviously.

Undeniably smaller, but I'd really like to see where you think there's a much different demographic.

Manic Street Preachers ARE a band in decline. Hence why unlike the Phonics, their albums aren't a regular in the charts and they're out of the arenas.

if not Coldplay, then who? almost everybody (apart from the ridiculous acts - Prince, Bowie etc) has been ruled out in one way or another haven't they? been set on Coldplay for so long now that i hadn't even begun to consider that it might be somebody else. Blur would be fantastic obviously, but i don't see it...

Why not?

Because they haven't been close to relevent for years, is there really any clamour for them to return? As I think I have seen someone mention elsewhere they are about the same sort of size as Manics - I couln't personally see them doing anything more than an afternoon Pyramid slot - but admittedly I could easily be letting my own prejudice towards their music cloud my judgement.

But they're NOT the same size as the Manics. They're bigger. Album sales and gigs show this.

and on the Stereophonics vs Manics vs Glastonbury debacle, Stereophonics are the bigger act when it comes to the festival circuit - they have the big hits and sing alongs and are relatively pop in comparison to Manics (who have a few big hitters but then also a lot of lesser known stuff). if Stereophonics were to play Glastonbury, it'd be about third down, but will they be booked? probably not - the T and V crowd eat up that kind of shit. Glastonbury not so much. there's a reason they haven't been booked to play in the 13 years since they headlined

how are stereophonics "not a glastonbury band"? they headlined the damn thing.

In which case they could return? Because if that's what you're saying, it's in exactly the sort of slot they'd get anywhere else. The arguments against it are either entirely false or irrelevant.

I've never said they couldnt. I imagine it's the sort of dross people would lap up on the pyramid. 3rd top seems about right, sub wouldnt surprise me.

Two of Flo/Elton/Swift.

I do still believe it'll be Coldplay, but the above options aren't ruled out.

Also I can't be arsed to trawl back and quote Nal, but yeah, Mastodon would be brilliant. Missed their tour this year as I couldn't really justify the ticket price.

And finally, couldn't see Stereophonics being booked, but if they were I'd probably predict 3rd down on the Pyramid.

    • My Orange car park ticket turned up today. The envelope looked like some kind of junk mail offering me a loan so I nearly didn't open it!
    • There is a bunch of TBC acts on Deftones day, according to APE insta. The obvious guesses are Fiddlehead, Nothing, Dynamite and Make Way, "Outbreak" artists playing the night before. The question is more about how are they are gonna fit in on three big stages.    is
    • SURELY Reel Big Fish will be here?
    • Sam Fender, Harry Styles, Sabrina Carpenter is a very bland set of headliners. Commercially successful and makes plenty of sense, but it wouldn't be very inspirising. That said I want a band like Green Day to headline so who am I to say what exciting is.
    • Potentially rogue shout here but could see Rebecca Black in the running for a mid-afternoon spot. I know most people still remember her for Friday but lately she’s been putting out a lot of fun pop bangers, think this could be a very fun booking!
