no, they dont. Again, look at ours. They will go after anytbing thats against their agenda. Uk gov still has it out for people from the north and esp for ones calling out their sh*t when it comes to Israel and Palestine. They see Kneecap is making an impression and will do whats needed to supress. They will only do so much indirectly and then hope it scares others into ending it and the jobs done.

Right now Glasto will be their biggest platform if it all goes well and the ratings will be through the roof. If the gov or the Bbc try anything then the headlines will all negative against them and theres no way they want that. So they are clutching at straws for the time being.

I mean there's a lot of conspiracy stuff with all that. Maybe govt could intervene and stop it, maybe home office has said go after these horrid Irish rotters telling fans to kill their MPs. But ultimately Hezbollah and Hamas are proscribed terrorist groups and if you're caught supporting them your in trouble...that could be protesters on a march or a band on stage. It happens elsewhere, but this is more high profile..and obviously the band are making the most of it too.

Need to keep em on WH

no damn way. Other at minimum. I dont think you want there to be a whole safety thing to come up after all of this. Like WH is already gonna be rammed for En Vogue but they arent going to be drawing the eyeballs that Kneecap is gonna have on them.

Get some perspective, people!

Kneecap are professional musicians who've found themselves in a bit of trouble with the law. They're not some terrorist organisation, and they're not going to do anything now that might risk getting them banged up. They will be on their best behaviour, their Glastonbury shows will go off without a hitch, their West Holts set will almost certainly be streamed live on iPlayer as normal, and come the Saturday evening you lot here will wonder what all the fuss was about.

Kneecap: they're just a band.

Yeah it'll be busy.  Just get there early.

En Vogue look like they’ll clash with Alanis Morissette so I dunno if their crowd will be especially notable.

Sounds like the Brothers Bar will be an ideal place to hang out for an hour.

After sitting back from this a bit- in my moment of epiphany (and cos I'm old) - it's a lot of the furore the sex pistols went through.

Being called out on images used (on clothing for them swastika), being 'banned' from performing, but some places feeling they could let them perform and it all going off ok.

Having their values and ideas held up as 'abhorrent '.

Ok admittedly one of them is dead but now Sex pistols are an act that perform their one album to a crowd of people who cheer and mostly weren't there. (Not quite novelty- but almost a- I've seen them- tick list.

John Lydon has been proven right about some of the stuff he was saying at the time (Savile et al) and now seen as a slightly contrary national treasure.

Exactly

when you witness the horrific scenes and the suffering being inflicted on the innocent population of Gaza by the Israeli forces the fact that an Irish rap group waves a flag on a stage in England pales into insignificance. Gaza has been reduced to rubble in scenes reminiscent of Hiroshima. Of course what happened to the Israelis was equally horrific but their response in my opinion has been way over the top.
Personally Kneecap don’t appeal to me musically so I wont be there but musicians have a history of controversy and saying things to provoke and initiate discussion whether this is the situation in Ireland or Gaza. I have my own opinions but totally understand others may hold opposing views.

Not a hypocritical old whinging arsehole?

Ever since he suggested the US working class should vote for a group of billionaires everything he says these days is arse gravy.

(sorry the Trump thing and his recent hypocrisy on breakfast telly winds me up somewhat)

Tricky one, re: stage placement. Moving them to a bigger stage is the only sensible thing to do from a crowd management perspective, given the heightened interest as a result of all this. West Holts will likely be closed again, and if any stage closes their area, the booking team f**ked up. Nobody with a wristband should be told ‘sorry mate, you can’t get in’.

However, they need to tread carefully here. Changing the stage could be perceived as megaphoning the message, and Glasto is a bit too much of a cultural institution to ruffle feathers now, not because the message isn’t important and valid, but from a depressingly corporate perspective. Sad but true.

I don’t envy them the decision.

Supposedly to pay for his last album.

But yeah selling out seems to come to almost everyone eventually on some level.

Neil young has sold rights to his back catalogue etc

Oh absolutely now- ever since moving from the UK and still commenting- as morrisey.

But in the 18 month zeitgeist of the sex pistols being public enemy I can see parallels

Phew, we're on the same page about that 😊

When he made the breakfast telly reference to "human beings" i was sure he was being satirical.

I’d view it as the opposite - what an opportunity for the festival.

I mean, whose feathers are they really going to ruffle that are of any real consequence?

They will have a great many relationships with corporate partners, and a relationship with the council as well, who may well feel like amplifying a band with Kneecap’s opinions would be consequential.

Again, I’m in no way defending any of that, but an operation of Glasto scale is very complex.

Yeah, I get that but what corporate partners do we think are actually consequential? Their whole shtick is about avoiding big commerical sponsors so I can’t see them being a huge revenue stream. Maybe I’m wrong though?

And then when we consider the 100’s of millions the festival adds to the UK economy, I’m sure it gives them a decent amount of wiggle room to push the boat out around messaging that ultimately aligns with the festivals identity(albeit a bit watered down from its early years).

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.
    • Here's a bit of a wild stab, few placings may be off, and for all I know half of these won't actually be touring next year, but screw it, it's a bit of fun   Pyramid: Sabrina Carpenter, Phoebe Bridgers, TBA (Florence + The Machine), Garbage, The Last Dinner Party, Interpol, Alex James Britpop Classical Other: Chase & Status, Teddy Swims, Clairo, The Kooks, Zara Larsson, Kingfishr, Sports Team, Orbital West Holts: Robyn, Baby Keem, De La Soul, Deltron 3030, JID, Dua Saleh, kwn, Daniela Latila Woodsies: Bonobo, Darkside, TBA (Tame Impala), Laufey, Warmduscher, Wednesday, The Lottery Winners, The Royston Club, Florence Road Park: Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Slayyyter, The Cardigans, Skye Newman, Kelly Lee Owens, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers   Pyramid: Harry Styles, The xx, Richard Ashcroft, The Pogues, Jessie J, Sigrid, Travis Other: Rosalia, Sombr, Mitski, Alex Warren, Holly Humberstone, Cat Burns, Pale Waves, Yard Act West Holts: Basement Jaxx, Elyanna, Clipse, L’Imperatrice, Nation of Language, Jim Legxacy, Yazmin Lacey, RIP Magic Woodsies: Suede, Chvrches, Bleachers, MUNA, The Cribs, Keo, Bleech 9:3, The Lilacs Park: MARINA, Magdalena Bay, Jacob Alon, TBA (Lily Allen performs West End Girl), Getdown Services, Isaac Wood, Snail Mail, Madra Salach Pyramid: Sam Fender, Hozier, David Byrne, Cher, Obongjayar, David Gray, Billy Ocean Other: Doja Cat, Deftones, Addison Rae, Ren, Viagra Boys, Maisie Peters, The Reytons, Hard Life West Holts: Kano, Thievery Corporation, Angine De Poitrine, Thee Sacred Souls, Brooke Combe, Sasha Keable, Master Peace Woodsies: The Wombats, Metronomy, Geese*, Dry Cleaning, EsDeeKid, Sienna Spiro, Cowboy Hunters, Radio Free Alice Park: Big Thief, Laura Marling, MJ Lenderman, Richard Dawson, Oklou, Maruja, Dead Dads Club, Ratboys   *There's always one band booked for Woodsies that ends up being massively under-billed and gets shut down really early. They'd be better off playing somewhere like Other sub, but I could see the G getting them to play a smaller stage while it's still possible
    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
    • Blink-182 / Avril Lavigne / Good Charlotte / Neck Deep    Lamb of God / Malevolence      System Of A Down / Five Finger Death Punch / Skindred / Godsmack   Motionless In White / Poppy      Deftones / Gojira / Knocked Loose / President    Sabaton / Amon Amarth
