That was me getting optimistic for 3 big electronic headliners. I didn't mean to post it as fact, I has assumed it was already heavily rumoured.

Fri- Underworld

Sat- Basement Jaxx

Sun- The Prodigy

That would likely be the first year I’d not seen a pyramid headliner if true 🙂

Likewise with Muse, just a gut feeling, even as a Muse fan. They haven’t really done anything of note since the last appearance and even then there was a load of murmurs about it being a boring booking. Can see them returning if they don’t fall off as they’re still Stadium/Arena sized (within reason) but don’t see it next year, maybe they do R&L or maybe they just have a quiet one. But as @charlierc said that last headline was 2016, doesn’t feel that long ago at all!

Maybe the fact TV isn't that much more HD 8/9 years on and that 2020/21 being a musical (supermassive) black hole thanks to covid helps make it feel like it was sooner than it was.

Simulation Theory and Will of the People have a couple of alright songs - and ones that work well live - but they're already imo at the "new LP cuts and singles" stage where the new LP stuff is in one tour, out the next.

I'm not convinced by them for Glastonbury, and certainly don't feel like this thread necessarily has had a constant stream of people saying they'll do it. Even though the trail on what Muse are doing has gone quiet since announcing those 3 shows, it's a question of where they might wash up here. BST Hyde Park still has 2/3 gigs to fill from what I recall, hence pondering if that might be a place. Someone also suggested them for that new Come Together thing up in Newcastle, though that could just be wishful thinking.

My ideal of those being discussed would be Pulp/Lady Gaga/Sam Fender. Suspect I will be 0/3 on those, but nice to dream…

Feel like Fender is gonna prioritise his stadium stuff tbh.

Is the buzz that Gaga isn't around next year?

Pulp are touring given Bilbao BBK and Tramlines announced them but no idea what else they might do. I like the idea of them doing a Different Class in full tour - best album of the 90s imo. But it's tricky to know what else they're up to yet.

Simulation Theory and Will of the People had their detractors but agreed there’s a handful of good tracks across them. Even went to the Simulation Theory tour and had a blast. Dates didn’t work out on WOTP for me though.

Do they necessarily have to do any UK dates next year though? They could just do a few fleeting dates across the summer in Europe and that be it. They did R&L 2017, but they’re a bit more limited in headliner choice and it could get me there on a day ticket. Mind you R&L day tickets are extortionate these days.

Also looks like I misjudged that Come Together thing! I thought it was a standard 3-day event, but looks like they’re trying to do a Northern BST type deal focused on individual days on a site. Robbie Williams and KoL aren’t for me, but at least shows some ambition for the size of act they’re getting. One to watch for sure.

So does this have any bearing on  things do we think?

Reading25-Portrait-Web-900x1125.jpg

In a word: No.

Chappell not being exclusive maybe? Wasn’t there talk that’s what they were trying for. Increased chance of her at Glastonbury I guess.

Other than that maybe Amyl, and a couple mid or down bill acts like Kooks cropping up somewhere but in the whole don’t think there’d be much overlap.

If Glastonbury was to get a heavier act on the Other stage give me Deftones over BMTH any day of the week.

They never share headliners in the same year but some Reading headliners have appeared lower down the Glastonbury bill.

Indeed, especially since R+L started pretending that they had 2 headliners per day.

Lewis Capaldi was one example, quite recently, although I think he ended up pulling out of R+L

Yeah that was when Lewis was a second stage head before The Killers during the dual main stage experiment that has since been canned.

Looks too like they've canned the 6 headliners idea. Hozier & Chappell Roan appear to be co-heads but BMTH & Travis Scott seem to be standalone bill-toppers.

Well it's a moot point now given the Reading and Leeds line-up is out with no Muse on it.

I am aware that the possibility is there - the 2024 tour schedule is literally just two Middle East concerts. But feels like in theory at least the machine would be more active than just the 3 European shows announced so far (although a Brazil date was being rumoured on their Reddit) and if they are going to be in the area, why not throw in a show in the UK?

Guess we'll find out though. Like you say, not an obligation.

"Chappell Roan will be making the victory lap off the back of the phenomenal slowburn success of her debut album ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess‘, appearing at R&L as an English headline exclusive."

From the NME article - very odd wording there on the exclusivity.

So we think that potentially means a show in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland in the week before R&L?
