The Weather Thread 2024

The 0z ECM has the feature that ICON has been showing moving across not too far to our north on Saturday.  We need that to stay where it is and not come south…

IMG_2012.jpeg.d5f283ffd480fc3ac247d0613748547c.jpeg

It also hints at the possibility of showers on Sunday….

and the GEM still wants to give us rain for Sunday…but that has to be considered an outlier obviously…

So we’re not completely out of the woods for the weekend but holding firm at the moment….

Well I've now left the house for the ferry. As usual I have a knackered pair of trainers on my feet and no other footwear with me.

Solid work as always weather thread junkies. Big shout out to briddj, alvoram, Sheffield steve, AdrianH and the others doing the Lord's work.

Until next year (hopefully)

It would have to be a Michael Fish level blunder to be anything other than trainers right now. The ground is a desert and rain forecasted won't have any effect on the site

I did the Ride London six years ago and on the Monday for the Sunday it was forecast to be high twenties and completely dry.

What actually happened was the forecast changed on the Wednesday and it was torrential rain for 4 hours. Did not enjoy.

Yeah it's a mad streak. There's actually been soo many heatwave festivals in that list too - 2018 Bestival, 2019 Glasto, Lost Village 2022 and Glasto 2023 were all absolute scorchers.

And I thought I'd been lucky with festival weather!  Including the smaller, local 1 day festivals I sometimes attend I think I've been to around 25 or so and only been to 3 that were wet/muddy.

my luck is even crazier with day festivals…..been to one wash out ever - Field Day 2016. Ground was fine but was was torrential rain the whole day.

I’m getting married June next year - it’s going to be Noah’s ark isn’t it…..ha

Can’t do it. I’m wearing the boots. Don’t want to get cocky! I tried, but couldn’t do it. I even put the umbrella, a poncho and two rain jackets in to be sure to be sure!

Yep, wearing walking boots to get in, pack trainers to swap into when I get there. Rain coat and waterproof over-trousers also packed.

SUMMARY

A great run apart from Sunday, which appears to be in a degree of doubt at the moment.

We appear to have won the war, but is there a battle still to be fought?

doesnt take much to turn the ground sloppy ... id at least wear walking boots shoes in / then change to trainers .... boots do give better support with wood chip though and might help with not turning an ankle

Especially if you're going to be carrying a heavy rucksack.

I'm going on the coach and gave my trainers to my mate whose going down today in a CV, so I have to wear my boots. Will also be taking my Birkenstocks, they were fine on the Sunday last year and easier on my feet - although they'll get really dirty.

I think I did it that year. I'd done it the 2 years previous and the weather had been great so didn't think to check the forecast, it was really grim - didn't stop raining until i'd done 80 miles.

    • Skylink is 24 hours... But the skylink will drop you off at Pegasus business Park or EMA (East Midlands Airport) where you'll have to use the Download shuttle link, which isn't 24 hours. The last shuttle from the Download transport hub to EMA is 12:15 TrentBarton / Local bus info here: https://www.trentbarton.co.uk/download2026   Skylink Derby / Leicester / Loughborough timetable here: https://www.trentbarton.co.uk/services/skylinkderby  Shuttle timetable here: https://www.trentbarton.co.uk/userfiles/hotel.pdf If you miss the shuttle, which is very doubtful, you'll just have to find another way to EMA / Pegasus business park, maybe a taxi. You could even walk to EMA from the Download transport hub, wouldn't take too long. Just make sure you use the airport's 'circular path' instead of the dangerous roads.  I walk the circular path often, it's nice and easy. I would post instructions but I very much doubt you'll miss the shuttle, and if you do, it isn't hard to work out. The footpath is clearly signposted from directly opposite / across the road from where the download map has labelled "Pickup and Drop Off Exit."
    • So for Harry Styles it was actually a plastic bag that basically blocks the view of the front and back cameras. You can still use the phone screen. It's much easier than using lockers, especially for people leaving for the last train etc    I think it's basically reliant on the threat of security kicking you out if you start filming.
    • Hey, does anybody have a joining link for the WhatsApp group plz? I know the secret sets get posted there but have a new phone and number
    • Do you think they'll release today's cupra pulse lineup?
    • I had a great time yesterday and came to the conclusion that everytime (or, more accurately, both times) I didn't have a great time at Primavera, it was water-related. Either there was too much of it (Thursday 2026) or there wasn't enough (Thursday 2022, week 1).
