Not really hearing it. Have another crack at it.  This is pure Jim.

I can't believe this sh*t.

Did it not give you 'Nick Helm doing his rock star schtick' vibes. If they manage to pull off walking this line, fair play to them.

Bafflingly, to me at least, I've gone back in and am hooked by the second track, but I think for all the wrong reasons. My verdict: Grisly but gripping.

Has anyone seen them live? Do they manage to pull this ludicrousness off?

Seen them live a few times, always put on a show and sound tremendous. Every member is very good at what they do. They are very aware of what they are and lean into it heavily. Charisma for days.

They did a special show last year and the lead singer was "killed" and had his head cut off (dummy head) before announcing they were signing to a new label and dropped a new single along with a sort of brand refresh. I think they're fantastic, I think even if it ain't up your alley it's easy to appreciate the effort and artistry that has sort of gone away in the past couple of decades.

That mad orchestral-vocal-part-build-up is AWESOME.

So f**king good, yep.

Really given me the itch to see them live again. Last time was West Holts, 2016, I think? Magnificent.

For some reason I found that performance a bit underwhelming.

Really? loved it, but wasn't sure I was going to go to it till quite late on, pretty spontaneous, so had no expectations. And it had probably been 6 or 7 years since I'd seen them before that. Much like listening to that new song today, I'd forgotten how good they can be.

Just found it a bit "lightweight", more Pet Shop Boys than Underworld.

Not that I have a problem with PSB.

Was looking forward to this day of releases, and so far it has not disappointed. Sampha's new album is excellent, and Parcels new Live Volume is also good, much more up tempo than last one. On too Lost Girls (Jenny Hval side project) and then Bombay Bicycle Club now.

Not sure when in 2023 it was released but I listened to the Young Fathers album lastnight. Bloody hell it's a bit good! Only really listened to a handful of their tracks in the past. Massively into this latest record.

It's definitely in the top 3 albums of the year for me. Live they're even better.

Really?? First thing I said to my mate who I sent it to was I hope they can replicate that complex sound live. I will 100% be keeping an eye out for them. Any thoughts on a GF appearance?

    • It was awful during Father John Misty and I was close to the front. People just shouting and laughing their f-ing heads off about nothing in particular and being louder than the bloody stage.
    • Other things I noted yesterday, away from the obvious…   Positives: - an extra water point towards the back left of the main stages has appeared, which I believe is new for this year (and was much needed) - handing out free ponchos was a good touch  - caroline were fantastic. I’d never been in the Auditori Rockdelux before, it’s a wonderful venue and a great venue if you fancy a more chilled out environment  Negatives: - the talkers. I know it’s always bad here (and most festivals nowadays) but f**k me people wouldn’t shut up yesterday. I wonder if it was partly as a result of people being at artists they had little interest in (due to rain limiting their options), although it wasn’t great during blood orange. We’ll be making an effort to get a spot nearer the front for anyone we particularly care about over the weekend  - not enough staff around (and the ones that are there are largely useless). Most other festivals have them everywhere and are happy to help
