Headliners 2023

Since the discussion has run out of steam I thought I'd throw in my two cents. We can categorise headliners into three distinct groups:

Known knowns (Elton John) - confirmed, announced, set in stone

Known unknowns (Arctic Monkeys) - tour dates aligning, history with the festival, act at the peak of their powers (although maybe not in a live setting)

Unknown unknowns - Is there a curveball that hasn't been considered? What of the wildcard, the joker in the pack, the leftfield choice which has been kept so tightly under wraps we've not heard a peep?

The curveball was Guns n Roses.

Stop.  I haven't even been able to watch it back because it would only make me feel worse for missing them.

I can tell myself that I've already seen them a few times before and it's no great loss but damn, it's up there as one of my biggest glaso regrets.

If it makes you feel better I missed Blur in 2008, Killers in 2019 and The Right Bazza/Chic double, also in 2019.

We can put denial in the known knowns

Don't think we're moving fast enough. Should I grumpily inform the people that the field is going to be empty and you suggest they headline the other, or would you prefer it the other way around?

Well they arent getting Kate Bush and Rihanna is pregnant, so what else were you hoping for. Dua is in the studio, Gaga is filming a movie. Pulp is the biggest non headliner theyre ending up with and nobody would be upset if their name was on top of Friday instead of Arctics.

Look I love Pulp but all this talk of then headlining above AM is absolutely bonkers

Artic Monkeys will not headline 2023… The tour dates are a smoke screen to put you all of the scent, as you have become to good over the years !

Your all being trumped 👀

Are you back at the denial stage? I thought you’d moved on to acceptance.

there's gnr and then there's the story their name came with. i have my own source for gnr, that doesn't have a ridiculous story attached.

All paths lead to the same place though, don’t they?

    • 2 really good albums IMO. Fun, really good musicians, energetic, can dance to it.    I'd take that over the couple of dozen twee ernest singer songwriter 2 chord dross acts on the bill most years.
    • They will have strictly 14 days to comply, at the end of which they will strictly have another 14 days to comply.
    • Bonobo has a new album out in September.  Touring the US the end of this year, so hopefully UK dates and festivals in 2027.  Would make a superb Park headliner.
    • I was following up to pink_triangle's post about what Reform are saying they will do to find money for defence spending.   But with Labour, they may well water down or delay some of the net zero commitments, they may find ways to cut welfare spending with Pat McFadden's welfare review thing, but I don't think it's going to be near enough. They really tied themselves down with the tax commitments in their manifesto, just reversing Hunt's NI cuts would have gone a long way. Under Burnham I think they may try and reform some of the tax system, land taxes and levies etc. Certainly needs reforming. But that might all be after a general election if Labour were to win.  I reckon they will try and do something with fiscal rules to borrow more, and try and persuade markets to go along with them.  (and he's already rowed back on that waspi thing...I think his team and others in Labour had a word).
