Headliners 2023

That’s a fair point. I think I’m the same age as you and Elton has generated a lot more interest than Kendrick or Billie did but I agree plenty will be looking for more acts like that. As we’ve all said, it’s a weak year overall and it does feel like most festivals are lacking big acts of that ilk.

We haven't all said it's a weak year overall. The current longstanding rumour is as big a trio as Glasto have ever had. Maybe the biggest.

Yup. No evidence at all at this point that G23 is going to be a weak year.

I mean headliners sure size wise.

Undercard on the other hand is not helped by a very poor selection of acts doing festivals next year.

Undercard will be fine. Other festivals may be weaker as more ace bands are playing Glasto and CBA doing more UK fests?

I think the references to a "weak year" are across the festival scene generally, both in Europe and the US.

There's some truth to that, but I think it's overstated slightly.

Might be bullshit but someone on Twitter is claiming Dua Lipa is headlining Coachella, announced within 48 hours and she has a new album out July 7th called Seven Wonders. It’s already on her Wikipedia page already, a fan being silly or some news incoming?

Imagine if she has a new album out on July 7th and Glastonbury haven’t got her…

Duachella ❤️

I meant across festivals overall next year, lots of alright lineups but not many particularly exciting bookings, Glastonbury getting Elton aside. As I said earlier, the rumoured trio would go down very well overall and are three huge acts. If they book those three alongside Lizzo, Pulp, QOTSA, The Prodigy etc with the usual varied undercard then while it’s maybe not a vintage lineup for some, it’s still stronger than pretty much every other festival.

Really don't want it to be the Foo Fighters. I used to like them as a teenager but what can they bring to the table less than 10 years on since their first headline? I don't see the point. Headlining when they did felt like the right time. All they've released and done since is typical middle of the road rock.

Not saying they can never return but it's too soon.

no big surprise but one of my regular sources tells me that arctics is definitely one of the headliners (he's not sure of the day), he's still on the trail of the last headliner.

Yeah agreed, as boring a booking as you’ll find. They’d probably go down great with most though tbh.

There’s a kid on Reddit who 4 months ago said Arctics/GNR and Elton - I really believe him now. This was before the Gnr rumours had even started!

Given Arctic Monkeys have long been seen as nailed on for this, they seem to be taking their time in declaring. I know it's fairly obvious given the gap in their huge-ass stadium run is there, but I honestly kinda thought it might be already announced.

Wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people in the field in front of El Pointo will be seeing them for a second time in 2023 given how many shows they're doing in May/June.

It's often the case that the most obvious one is not announced immediately, we knew The Cure were doing it a good six months before they were formally announced.

There's nothing really to be gained from announcing AM any time soon, acts that get announced early usually get something special like the Elton stuff or the Radiohead bear being painted on the field.... Arctics doing a third one isn't particularly special. I reckon it'll be kept back for the first poster.

I still don't see the Foos being rebooked any time soon for a few reasons.

Firstly, would they be ready? Only Grohl and the others know for sure but 23 certainly feels too soon, 24? Perhaps but no guarantees.

Secondly, from the festival's point of view it would it be dreadfully uninspired booking. 2024 would only be three festivals between headlining appearances and take the Taylor stuff out of the equation it would be the exact same set. There's been no material released then that has made much of an impact anywhere so it'll be the same as last time with Dave yelling "this one's for Taylor!!" over and over again.

Thirdly, if they were looking to do a big UK festival why Glastonbury again? There's a myth that Grohl has this great relationship with the festival, but in reality the Foos have played twice - once in the 90's and 17 when they headlined. Yeah they probably enjoyed it but it's hardly Chris Martin is it? Reading has always been the Foos spiritual home and if they were back I'd fancy them to look there first.

I think there's a sudden sentimental interest in Foo Fighters because of the tragic death of Taylor. It's not like the band have an affinity with the festival. I can't recall there being a huge desire for them to headline before 2017. They obviously made friends by doing the announcement video and the Cheese & Grain gig, that was a lot of fun, but their headline slot itself was just "good". Everything you'd expect from a FF gig. Not sure that the death of the drummer justifies so soon a return.

As I said above, their history is with Reading, not Glastonbury. My money is on them playing there again before doing GF again.

They played there in 2019 to be fair. As much as his relationship with the festival might be overstated a bit, Dave Grohl did seem really taken on with it when they headlined and the whole Cheese & Grain thing isn’t something you do for just another stop on the tour. It wouldn’t be an exciting booking for us but they’d pull a massive crowd. There will be huge demand to see them when they start touring again and I’m sure Emily would want to be part of that.
