Actually, it pains me to be admit it, given how much of prick the guy who runs it is, but Wetherspoons are about as good as a massive chain of pubs could be.

Decent selection of ales, food prices and no shit loud music all night long.

Food is crap though.

Someone's never been to the moon under the water.

I live in Cornwall and people here are much more worried about all the tourists coming down today, on the same day as pubs reopening is just madness. As you can see some people are letting their feelings be known lol

Well, you appear to be very open to suggestion today Mr Hats. May I suggest that Muse are not actually that a bad a band? ;)

Tbf I'm about to go out and have a potter and see what it's like out. Mainly to see if my barber's open and if he has a queue and is doing walk ins, or is it appointment only (I don't think any bloke I've ever known has ever had a barbers appointment).

Pretty sure I won't be going into any hostelries though. I don't own a smartphone so no app for me for a start. Also don't think I can trust people to maintain social distancing. I went to the supermarket yesterday and it was like it had all gone out the window. Couldn't wait to get out of the place.

Edit: And 'spoons food ain't that bad for what you pay. Really missed their meal deals during all of this personally. Steak and a pint for seven odd quid on a Tuesday. Get in.

It's a rollercoaster of emotions, what can I say? 😁😭😷😎

I used to go to spoons all the time; good beer, decent food (you know what you're getting) and some great buildings. Perfect for meeting people before a gig, say.

Tried to turn a blind eye to his Brexit stance but going to avoid it where possible now. As in I'll try to go somewhere different instead but won't be a dickhead if, for example, all my mates were in one or meeting in one.

I do. Those pictures of grim pubs with shit pints on the table had me salivating. And I think I've had too much cider recently, so need some hops.

I'm beyond gagging for a real ale. And they're open. However, my gut feeling is to run with your own initial point on this. However, I am gagging - did I tell you all that already? I also NEED some restorative hops. Oh fuck! What to do?

So, being at work is weird.

I was meant to be at a festival with one of my best friends right now. But now that's canceled and my friend is gone.

And yet there's still arseholes going to the loo here and not washing their hands. I wish great suffering upon anyone that does it; they deserve the absolute worst .

its difficult quandary and if people know the answer please tell me ..... wetherspoons and their pricing undercutting will be responsible for the closing of quite a few pubs and slowly it doesnt seem to be quite such an undercut as it once was as the choice will be limited and potentially a  lot more so .......  I dont in any way want to support Tim Marin in any way shape or form ... but he has people over a barrel here with the poor workers working on minimum wage with pretty awful terms .... and of course I dont want to see the poorly paid hit any harder than they have been .... that said I won't be visiting them .... but whats the answer going forward ?

Probably support your local pub but there should be room for both. I know some who go there because of the choice of beers and no Big screen football!

Its a derogatory term for tourists used by Cornish people sometimes. I usually hate this type of behaviour, as Cornwall is a beautiful place and should be open to everybody and christ knows our tourism industry needs to get back up and running. But a lot of people are genuinely scared here and people should probably stay away for the time being.

if you want Glastonbury to go ahead - go to the pub. Get industry back into the swing of things even if it's difficult. Rip the plaster.

Think peoples lives are also worth considering and taking into account rather than just glastonbury

The pubs are open, so people are perfectly entitled to go to the pub, and whether people go to the pub or not will not affect if Glastonbury goes ahead.

What will affect if Glastonbury goes ahead is how people behave in the pubs. If people stick to social distancing guidelines then we won’t see a second spike. If people break them, then everything will shut down again and the chances of festivals next year are even more minimised.

So by all means go to the pub, but be sensible and respect the social distancing in place, it’s for yours and other safety. If you are inside only mix with one other household, but outdoors in a beer garden you can socialise with 5 other friends.

I know the government have left us on our own here, but they have put some vague rules in place, so as long as we are sensible and keep to social distancing we can keep virus transmission sustained low and we can really suppress it, allowing for more things to open and for less people to catch this horrible virus and as a result less deaths. It takes everyone to work together, but if everyone’s tries their best then we will have festivals next year and Glasto will be able to go ahead.

So go and enjoy the pub, have a nice time, just remember to respect the rules in place as the virus is still spreading out there!

After a wander around town (Wells actually...) it's pretty obvious that most people have now pretty much given up on distancing and the 2m rule.  Mrs P and I were very much in the minority of people who try to avoid others 🙄

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
