Christ, just realised 2000 was the same year NIN headlines the Other Stage on the Friday, subbed by Moby....and could have done Leftfield on the Saturday. 

If I could go back to any Glasto in time, I think it would definitely be this one!

EDIT: God, I really hope 15 year old me could have been trusted not to go with The Chems, Travis and Basement Jaxx.... 😕 Not sure my NIN obsession started until a good few months after this.

Basement Jaxx on Other, Suzanne Vega on Acoustic and Doves in the new tent ( later became John Peel)   And Ozomatli on Jazzworld( West Holts)

there was no SE corner in 2000 so just Greenpeace, Avalon, Dance tent,  T&C fields plus Cinema

Found some clips of the NIN set online. The picture quality is woeful compared to Bowie. Looks like it was shot about 15 years earlier - in the world's grimiest rock venue. 

Looks pretty immense still though!

Also, Trent really did get a lot better with age....

Crowds also looked smaller because nobody had trollies for their kids and endless camping chairs. We sat on the ground, and some people had rugs. Whilst G led the way with Kids entertainment, it was a more adult environment back then.

My early years of going Reading Festival everyone either stood up or sat on the floor.

camping chairs didn’t become a thing until around 2002/03 iirc.

Watching the Bowie set now, the sheer MAGNETISM of the lad.

Plus, his band on top top form, and a set list of complete and utter world class bangers that any artist would kill to have.

Is this the best ever headline set? It's gotta be up there if it's not number one.

There was The Ballroom / Casino that year? £3 to rent a frock and get in (big bouncer on the door). Got in around the back in the end and my mate had a dance with a mummy. Can't remember too much else of the embryonic Lost Vagueness that year though - Diner and Rocket Lounge were next to appear I think, then The Church of Love or Lothe...

Bowie!  The full thing had never been broadcast before, even if it has been on DVD.  And there was some new Stones and Springsteen stuff too.
